It's often malicious in intent. All these policies are good as long as they hurt the "right" people, the ones that MAGA doesn't like. Once they themselves are hurt by the policies they actively supported they turn around and play the victim.

I'll never get over the numerous news stories along the lines of "husband and wife are huge Trump supporters, always voted for him, and are now crying and whining because one of them doesn't actually have legal paperwork and will be deported as well". You'd think people would be a bit more careful in those instances, but hurting others seems to be more important.
 
Yep it's a cult. Trump can do no wrong, he is their god.
As long as he hurts all the right people that's all they care about.

Occasionally you get the "leopards eating peoples faces party" situation that causes someone to finally realise that bad policies are bad. Because Conservative minds only ever give a shit when things happen to them.

That's what I can't wrap my mind around. So this no longer friend was perfectly fine with OTHER us citizens being murdered, because they were "woke leftists" who were "harassing" ICE. Claims which are objectively false. Farmers, who most voted Trump, are being hurt by the tariffs and many have come to regret their vote, he still wouldn't budge, cuz he's neither a farmer nor a "woke leftist". Well, he voted Trump "for the economy." The economy sucks my guy, groceries aren't any cheaper, rents are unaffordable, gas is between 4.50-6/gallon depending on the state. His rationlization? "it's a temporary sacrifice" SERIOUSLY? ugh. Completely brain dead.
