Black Sabbath's Children of the Sea sounds a little uninspired to me. A “going through the motions,” “more of the same” kind of track, whereas Running Wild's Riding the Storm offers adventure and some action. I'll take it.

Rotting Christ's song was very pleasant-sounding, almost hypnotic. I loved those drum burps - I don't know what to call them. A drum-pattern-led track, or whatever. After that, Immortal Bird's song felt too chaotic and neurotic, ha.

Savatage's Morphine Child was nice, but to me, it can't beat one of Nightwish's very best songs, Ghost Love Score. It's simply outstanding!

I don't listen to either band in the last matchup, so after a quick glance at Wikipedia, I learned that Coheed and Cambria are true nerds who write songs about their own imagined universe. Alter Bridge, on the other hand, gives zero fucks about stage personas.
I voted for In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3 because the music was nice and engaging. The vocals are certainly not metal, but they suited the song. Alter Bridge sounded too mainstream to me, like just another rock song on the radio. I'll go with the nerds - I felt they were much more passionate about their song.

Children of the Sea is a top tier, perfect Dio Sabbath song. The intro is magical and when the whole band kicks in it is some of the most powerful playing I've ever heard. Geezer's bass is incredible! The ending is equally as powerful and one of my favorite Dio moments of all time. Riding the Storm is a great song with cool riffing and all, but I'll be doing the demon dance and rushing to nevermore, myself. LOOK OUT!
Rotting Christ feels like power metal as played by Meshuggah, which is very interesting. It's very, very cool and the guitar playing is just awesome. I knew from the first second of blast beats that I would not be voting for Immortal Bird.
Morphine Child is one of the only Savatage songs with which I am familiar and it's really awesome, but, come on, we're talking about Ghost Love Score here. It's the single greatest symphonic metal song of all time and it was somehow made even better by Floor at Wacken 2013.
As usual, Alter Bridge is pleasant and manages to avoid being lumped in with pure butt rock because of Tremonti's guitar skills and Myles Kennedy great voice, but this band just doesn't move me in any way. IKSOSE: 3 is nowhere near my favorite Coheed song (I prefer the few albums directly after this one), it is still an all-time classic from an underrated band that is definitely more metal than Alter Bridge. MAN YOUR OWN JACKHAMMER!

If you haven't listened to the whole Poets And Madmen album, give a listen to Comissar. It takes a bit until it gets going, but there's a really cool synth/guitar combo riff in there around the 2 minute mark.

"Riding the Storm" is solid power metal, "Children of the Sea" is a classic. Love the way Iommi's guitar sounds.
"...Pir Threontai" didn't do a whole lot for me. I jived with it more towards the end but it still didn't fully grab me. I feel like that Viking guitar lead would've sounded better in a dual harmony. Immortal Bird's track is by far the best black metal song we've had so far, and man it started to even break through the confines of its genre by the end. Proggy, dynamic, killer stuff! You guys are once again cracked.
"Morphine Child" was pretty good (definitely see more of their influence on Sabaton), but "Ghost Love Score" is just something else. I still get fucking chills as they build into the final chorus.
Final match-up was two solid metal-adjacent songs against each other. "Waters Rising" had better guitar work, IKSOSE3 was more interesting overall and gets the nod from me.

I really liked everything I've heard from Alter Bridge and the trend continues here. I'm almost at the eh eh eh eh part of Hall of the Mountain King. No, no... It has awesome heavy guitar and I love their singer. Coheed were my band for this year, I was so obsessed with their first four albums I never got to the rest of them lol. They're so good. So I wanted to get one of their songs in and I probably should have went with No World for Tomorrow or Welcome Home for something more metal, but I cheated a little and picked a song I like slightly more. (lie because I probably prefer Welcome Home, but what do you expect me to write? That I picked a song that I like less that also doesn't fit the tournament??) So epic and one of the best woah-oh-ohs ever.

Shockin Classic Band bias here as a 60s rock song with an annoying metallic riff trounces some absolutely epic nonsense metal. Some of you cats are truly cracked. Well not this Cat. Pirates 4 Life, fuckers.
Rotting Christ, quite a cool song, love the wee swaying melody. I expected more mayhem from these guys. I'm pleasantly surprised. I may investigate these chaps. Immortal Bird is also decent, builds nicely and class outro although less accessible to these ears. Christ gets it.
Poor Savatage. The Nightwish song is a little special. Also love the Savatage song. Love the riff and bouncy piano melody, this song hooks me in a different way than Nightwish and I'm honestly more likely to just throw it on to a playlist. Hard round could go either way, depending on the time of day. Nightwish takes it.
Coheed starts well, I like the little guitar motif or whatever and the flavour of melancholy but it loses me halfway. Feels like a hodge podge of mediocre parts, the best of which comes at the end but the middle fucks it for me.

I knew that I wanted some Greek Cunt representation and I settled on Rotting Christ early. Wasn't quite sure which song to nominate and I ended up with this one. That entire album is full of bangers, so anyone who enjoyed what was on display here, make sure to check out the full album. There'll be a lot of immediately familiar material, but also some really fun surprises.
I actually prefer the vocal style of Immortal Bird compared to Rotting Christ's/Saki's. First time hearing of this band, I was pleasantly surprised. The riff starting around the 3:20-ish mark (and being reprised for the ending) is all kinds of badass. The outro was beautiful. Super strong song, I'll have to check out the album. Gotta go with my bias and vote for my own nominee though.

As I mentioned in the previous round, I prefer the second half of Savatage's discography. For anyone who liked this song, give Man In The Mirror from the same album a try. The instrumental second half has some really cool riffs. And for those who liked the counterpoint vocals at the end of Morphine Child, this is a bit of a Savatage trademark and appears on a bunch of their albums. So, check out:

Man, this round is not good for my picks lol. IKSOSE 3 is an amazing composition and deserves the win. I'm not the biggest fan of the vocals, they are a bit too pop punk for my tastes. Not a big fan of the dissonant parts in the middle though.
Waters Rising is incredibly fun to play on the guitar, for the guitarists among us. Especially once everything clicks and you get the vocals down at the same time. Just thought I'd mention that.
