The nature of this crisis is different — hardware prices are stepping on everyone’s plans, and AAA development costs are now rarely recoupable. People need to stick with modest hardware and modestly budgeted games to weather this immediate storm, but the big companies may not be able to pivot effectively for that need.
 
The bit about hardware is proceeding as intended, by the way. It's no accident. But that's part of another thread that escapes the topic at hand.

I think there is something in common with the nes/atari years. Is the tons of really bad games. During nes atari wasnt thay easy to do games.there was and article of a guy who had a colection of 900 nes games,the full colection ,900 is not that much for the years nes was on the market. Now i think are way more.

My "break" from Doom the Dark Ages went for a tad longer than I expected lol. I'm like 4 or 3 chapters from being done and instead I've been blazing through Crysis 2 (currently stuck) and The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. What a surprisingly good game! I never played XCOM or XCOM 2, but I'm really liking this game. The presentation, the time period, aesthetics, side missions, etc. You play FBI agent William Carter and you are at the frontlines of the alien invasion. You get to talk to a bunch of people at the base, you walk by and overhear conversations taking place, interact with files, pictures and recordings. They're not collectibles per se, since I haven't been able to find a menu option where you can access them. Seem to be a one time deal. You also get to investigate (bitch quests) things around the base and you get to recruit agents and send them on missions like in AC: Brotherhood. You get to take two agents with you on missions and you have to coordinate their movements. That takes some getting used to, but later, once you and your team are leveled up, you mow down aliens like nothing. You bark your orders, set them up, throw turrets, drones, mines and the like and clear them out. Even if they throw bigger, armored and shielded enemies. That's what your rocket turret, mines and electro-fields are for hahaha.

This weekend I plan to finish both DOOM DA and The Bureau, before going back to Crysis 2 and Final Fantasy V.

The remaining year and the following one will see new entries in almost all of my favourite franchises:

- Ocarina Of Time Remake (top 3 Zelda for me, right after Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Don't like BOTW/TOTK)
- Metroid Ravenous (Dread was already top tier)
- Kingdom Hearts IV
- FFXIV Evercold
- FFVII Revelations (though I did not like Rebirth)
- Castlevania: Belmont's Cruse
- God Of War Laufey

And with the exception of Revelations they all look absolutely amazing to me. Can't wait!

Throw in Resident Evil: Veronica and that’s probably my top 5 upcoming games right there.

I also didn’t care for BOTW as I thought it was just too large, and as a completionist there was no way I was hunting down like 1,000 seeds or whatever. I also thought the shrines were boring and repetitive. Never even played TOTK. OOT remake looks far more my speed, having never played much of the original but preferring a more semi-open world style. I loved the Zelda on SNES.

Very much looking forward to Ravenous, even though I wasn’t a huge Dread fan. Hopefully Nintendo corrects Metroid after the buzzkill of Prime 4 (and give me some damn remasters of Prime 2 and 3 already!)

Even once you get used to the controls it can still be a difficult game, but there are ways to cheese some of the tougher sections.

In terms of atmosphere and story it might be my favorite RE game, though, so I’m really looking forward to how it’s reimagined. I loved the creepy, almost gothic horror of parts of the original (one of the reasons I also love RE Village).

Rumor has it that Capcom is also planning on remaking RE Zero, which is one that really needs an overhaul - especially in terms of its awful plot. The original had great atmosphere, though, and on hard was probably tougher than Code Veronica.

Zelda ocarina of time looks great. Ive never played none apart from nes snes and wii zeldas. So i skipped the good one the ocarina and majoras mask.
 
Oh man, I've been cleaning house these past few days! Finished The Bureau, Doom Dark Ages, Crysis 2 and the base game of Diablo II. Yeah, I know that Act V is a seamless part of the game now, but BACK IN MY DAY it was an EXPANSION. I waited a full year, in the snow, barefoot, uphill, both ways to buy that shit.

Bit of a tangent on that. Expansion packs, used to be extras, something to hold you over between main releases. Kinda like the Fallout 3 DLC, just more shit in the same world. But Blizzard was releasing SEQUELS like Starcraft Brood Wars or the rest of the game like in the Diablo II expansion which is the "true" ending. Now-a-days we have both.

So anyway, Now gonna get through Diablo Act V, FFV, Crysis 3, Doom (2016).

Crysis 2 was incredibly fun for a game that makes NO SENSE lol.

I asked a friend of mine who is an XCOM fan if he had gotten through The Bureau, and he said he hadn't and had "heard bad things." I had no idea what he might be talking about as I was having a blast.... until the very end. literally, a few steps away from the finish line the game pulls the rug from under the players feet. I didn't mind it too much, but I could see how other players may have gotten very upset.
 
The Witcher 3 had proper expansions that added around 30 or so hours of pure game each. Phantom Liberty did the same for Cyberpunk 77, it's its own game with its own ending(s), and you can even jump straight into it.

Very exciting for the new upcoming Witcher 3 expansion in 2027 as well. Excellent time to replay.

They also remastered The Witcher 3 again for current owners. In addition to that, both pre-existing expansions are now free for current owners too.

SInce you were playing shooters, have you tried these new wave of "boomer shooters" like Dusk or Amid Evil? I have both and they are good. They are indie games so presentation might be not up to par with big budget games but they are in that same vein of games from the mid 90s. I like Amid Evil more, but I do think the maps can get confusing for a bit.

Some recently-released boomer shooters that I recommend:

Cultic
Prodeus
Ion Fury

All have a more modern sense of progression (like weapon upgrades) while keeping a fast old-school feel of secret areas with charming retro graphics. I can’t recommend them enough.

Haven't played those yet, I've been playing Forgive me, Father I and II. It's a Lovecraftian Boomer Shooter.

I can’t believe I forgot about that! I mean, the lead character’s name is Shelly Harris, so I kinda get it, but it’s free publicity for the band.
