I’m a bit irritated that something like this is being released now. Who needs this? :rolleyes: Especially since colored vinyl really doesn't sound good. Usually, something exciting gets announced around this time - in time for Christmas. So is this the big announcement for this year? :confused: I was really hoping for a live album, something from the Future Past tour or RFYL. Will anyone buy this?
 
If you look at the price of vinyl, it is actually pretty good value. However, most collectors will already have the albums on black vinyl and/or picture disc. Another shameless cash grab.

About the same indeed, there might be some very little difference, but for what I've studied and tested on the matter, the clear lp has somewhat slightly worse and perhaps a bit more surface noise. But some pressings are either great or poor, by the way it was has been pressed and it's not actually related to the color itself. Black is of course color too.
Even some of the newer picture LP releases, such as Maiden England ’88, sound pretty good compared to the original ’80s pressings, which were surely more of a collector’s item to be kept on the shelf as decoration. That particular pic-lp pressing of ME'88 is the only official edition on lp, so Im fine with it.
I have 3-5 different lp-pressings of each album already, so I think I might not at all invest to getting this boxset.

I don't have the numbers with me but vinylheads claim it doesn't. Picture discs are hell, or so they claim. It's one of the reasons why I'm a happy CD collector - way less things to worry about.

This is an attempt to dig into the performative vinyl collector, it's a huge thing among music fans, but metalheads are different... Maiden did release Number on cassette, but there's some recent cassette boxsets by the likes of King Diamond and Venom, since the format is the fetish of worship by metalheads worldwide, much more than vinyl IMO. But yes, this is unnecessary and weird, much like the arguably artificial push for the vinyl "comeback" :)

Yeah picture discs are because the picture is pressed onto the vinyl which disrupts the groove. Colored vinyl is just vinyl in a different color, it's still cut the same. If you have issues with it then that's more than likely down to the actual pressing and manufacturing.

I had two thoughts about this when I saw it on the brand's website:

1. How many times are they going to sell fans exactly the same music?
2. Thankfully I stopped being a Maiden collector more than a decade ago!

Im still a bit of a suckered but I won't he buying this, I have the last vinyl boxset anyway
 
I'm starting to draw the line myself. I used to buy all the formats when they were released, but it used to be a regular CD, a special CD version and an LP, did I need all 3? No. But they weren't that expensive, the vinyl was still only €25 for double and triple vinyls and the regular CD in particular was half nothing. The prices of vinyls are laughable now, the Senjutsu colour vinyls were about 70 quid, and there's more than one version. I didn't buy the FC Senjutsu boxset, I didn't buy the Somewhere in Time Yellow vinyl ( they had already released this as a Walmart exclusive the previous year and I had that) and I'm not going to buy this boxset.

What tipped me over the edge on the boxset is the Amazon exclusive, which means you get fleeced on postage and import duties, I might have been stupid enough to buy these albums again if they were available from my record store at retail prices.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the main culprit, 5 different dvd/blu ray versions of Burning Ambition (plus streaming!)

The 2015-2019 remasters were clearly done for a new generation, considering the last remasters were almost 20 years old at that point. This is fodder for the kids getting into the vinyl "experience". One thing you have to learn is that younger generations see music as an "experience", they don't care (yet) about things like matrix numbers or pressings. A bookshelf full of books means nothing when all of it is just crap literature, but here we are.

Do note that they are not being released in boxsets, while the 2015 campaign was clearly made to capitalize on the whole boxset release thing.

Burning Ambition isn't nowhere near as good to deserve such treatment :) Stuff like 12 Wasted Years or even the mini documentaries on the Early Days-style DVDs were much more candid and important-feeling. I could've used a documentary without Gene Simmons.

I burned out on Maiden's special editions when TFF came out and the thing is just a tin, it's ugly and looks ugly and out of place in your hands and on your shelf.
 
This is cool and all, but like others have said, we've all got these albums many times on multiple formats. I'm not sure I need another one at $235... Colored vinyl is kind of a waste to me, not because of sound, but because they just sit next to their counterparts on a shelf in the same cover...novelty wears off as soon as you put them back.

Would rather a collection of unreleased and cleaned up live material we haven't heard from the vaults but maybe next time.

I stopped buying physical releases for 10 years now. The last thing I bought was The Book of Souls CD. I might buy a DVD of LOTB/TFP/RFYL tours, though.
