2 Tribuzy - Beast In The Light +1
0 Roadrunner United - In The Fire
2 Death - Crystal Mountain +1
0 Revocation - Dismantle The Dictator
1 Bloodbound - Nosferatu +1
1 Kamelot - Karma
1 Mastodon - Hearts Alive +1
1 Arcane - Promise (Part 2)
The first match - Tribuzy's song wins not only because of Bruce's involvement, but also because the song overall sounds a little like his solo work, which is a plus. Although King's voice on
In the Fire also feels iconic.
Then
Crystal Mountain over
Dismantle the Dictator because it has that classic feel, and I like the song's duality between its intense and progressive parts. The twin-guitar interplay is nice and very welcome.
*Karma over
Nosferatu. I knew this Kamelot song a long time ago and, yes, it was certainly a big favorite of mine, yet long forgotten because I don't listen to Kamelot much nowadays, if at all. Great bittersweet atmosphere. The chorus is majestic. Bloodbound's
Nosferatu intro feels very Maiden or Blaze to me, and I liked it very much. The overall song is also very nice. So, in this instance, I voted for Karma because of my nostalgic connection to it, while I was hearing Bloodbound's
Nosferatu for the first time. That's also a little shame because I really like
Nosferatu - it should have been paired against another song, haha. Again, this song feels very much in the Maiden or Blaze realm to me.*
Mastodon's mammoth of a song,
Heart Alive, did not impress me. Much of it sounds like some sort of white noise to me. The guitars are muddy or blurry, more like a wall of sound than distinct instruments. I prefer distinct riffing to that stroke-style guitar playing - I can't even properly explain what I mean, haha. I can't say Arcane's song impressed me much either. I guess it's more melodic, but the clean parts diverge too much into territories I don't like very much. In the end, I chose Mastodon, but this match is more of a toss-up for me.

So, as I was listening to the songs and writing my notes, I relistened to
Nosferatu one more time - and in the end, I voted for this song, sort of to avoid relying purely on nostalgia for Kamelot's
Karma. As I mentioned, I really like the
Nosferatu intro - pure post-reunion Maiden or Blaze. The song also has some nice galloping qualities.
I would have preferred
Karma to be paired against H
earts Alive and
Nosferatu against
Promise (Part 2), so both
Karma and
Nosferatu would have gotten my vote.
Edit: Now I'm listening to
Karma... and I feel bad for not voting for it. Damn it. The match between
Karma and
Nosferatu was the toughest one for me this round.
