DAWSON 1 YEAR ON

If it is really people feeling scorned about who got the job, it is not weird at all - it is just envy. It is not right or nice, but unfortunately, there will always be some people who do things like that out of envy.

However, the question of why such an effort is made again right now could actually be better answered if there were indeed doubts within the band or an attempt to revisit the matter.

If this campaign exists, and these people are still reading here, you know what?

If there really were doubts within the band and they were reconsidering, you could be the deciding factor for keeping Simon.
Because when a decision is close, something like this often triggers a feeling of, “Now we’re standing by this person.”

Not exactly smart of you.

I think that the thing about simon is just im this forum. There is no doubt within the band with simson. Even in the show i attended they were ok with him and adrian did like "great drumming" to him with the head. They only thing that we can discuss for real is if nicko and simon are going to be on the next record or not.

I have seen bands playing with a drummer who cant play the songs like were recorded and this is not the.case.

Why does it have to a conspiracy? I just dont happen to think he's very good. I dont hate him either or compare him Nicko. I just think hes a very sub standard drummer imho
I don't think it's aimed at you or some of the other regulars here on the forum. I don't know if I believe there's some kind of conspiracy, but I can say at the very least, that I've seen posts very similar to Kurt Barlow's typing style on the maiden subreddit, from different user accounts. Could be coincidence, could be people watched the same content and picked up similar wordings for their criticisms, could be deliberate. Who knows?

If you're genuinely under the impression there's some sort of mass campaign across the internet aimed at ousting Simon Dawson from his role as the touring drummer of Iron Maiden, I implore you, please, please, get your head checked. If there was anyone within the organization with that kind of ability, they'd've fucking well used it to prevent him from getting hired in the first place Jesus H. fucking Christ.

Again, I don't think that snarc meant every single negative comment about Simon was part of some conspiracy. It's about a number of specific accounts on the subreddit, here and probably YouTube and/or Facebook with suspiciously similar writing and posting styles. Pettiness can be found in various forms, and we've seen how Joe Lazarous' father behaved when Simon was announced as Nicko's replacement. It's not outlandish to think that he (for example) could go on the internet and talk shit anonymous.

I'm not saying that this is what happened by the way. Just explaining where that line of thought might've originated.

This is insane. You're entertaining a fringe theory based on vague vibes about "similar writing styles" or whatever because of preconceived notions about Steve Lazarus being some sort of force to contend with. Do you not see how absurd this comes across written out? Like, I'm sorry, but even with the pretense of "I don't believe this, but..." it's a massive leap to formulate a mastermind FUD spewer out of some decrepit boomer talking shit with his name attached on Facebook.

His son didn't get to be a fill-in drummer of a band nearing retirement and he got mad because he thinks he's owed. Sockpuppeting multiple accounts across multiple platforms to amplify his own message is a humongous leap from that. He ran a fan club once. That was likely the peak of his ability.

I think you are massively misunderstanding what was written. They didn't claim that there's some massive conspiracy and certainly nothing about a "force to contend with". If you've spent any time on social media the last few years, especially during and after covid, you'd know that similar things have happened with other bands as well. It's really not outlandish in any way. Coordinated astroturfing campaigns are becoming more and more common, and it is pretty simple to set up something like that. No one said anything about masterminds. We're talking about something a lot more trivial and simple. Life isn't a movie after all.

You don't need influence and money, though that makes it easier. Time and pettiness are enough. And yes, brand new accounts on the forum and the subreddit using very similar wordings, that no other account besides them uses, is suspicious. Simply going "how ridiculous!" is naive.

Edit: But maybe snarf can elaborate, I'm just going off my impression of the topic lol

maybe the admins could help with those accounts if they have the ability to check IP addresses and such.

I don't understand why you think it is so insane to consider it possiblethat there is an astroturfing campaign when new accounts with similar wording are popping up in various places. You don't have to be a conspiracy genius to do that - you just have to be upset and envious.

By the way: I'm not one of those brandnew accounts. I just forgot my password and my email address.

Leana's heart is just as wrinkled as her face (without Photoshop). I'm not saying this to insult anyone, I have no interest in doing so, and why would I?
I am just saying this because it always baffled me endlessly that someone as educated and smart as Bruce, so famous, so rich, ends up with such an attitude and such a person, e.g., making totally ignorant assessments about Brexit, etc.

Because this isn't some high stakes corporate takeover! Again: a guy is mad his son didn't get a gig he felt was promised to him from years of working as a backup. The leaps of logic required for Steve Lazarus to become someone capable of organizing any sort of campaign that spans not only multiple video comments sections but also websites are enormous. You don't get there from being "upset and envious" no matter how much you repeat the same phrasings.

In fact if anything, this out of nowhere accusation from a freshly made account on basically the only Maiden fan discussion space outside of the fanclub and Reddit and other social media makes me suspicious of the motivation behind your posts. Poisoning the well on the discussion so nobody can have a civilized conversation about Iron Maiden's current touring drummer seems like it'd serve the interests of the band and management quite well if anything.

See how easy it is to create a conspiracy out of internet chatter? I don't actually believe this, because it's ridiculous. And yet the band assuredly has far more resources and knowledge at disposal, so they quite easily could do it. Lazarus does not.

Uh, no, I don't see anything at all. That post makes zero sense. Some people think there's an astroturfing campaign going on.
Still, we're having a reasonable discussion about Simon as a drummer - people here are sharing their opinions and reasons why they like him or don't. No one's trying to shut that down or poison the well.

That's the thing though, it's not enormous. It's incredibly simple. Anyone who is capable enough to sign up for any website can pull it off. And Steve Lazarus was just an example, if such a campaign were real, it could be spearheaded by a completely different person.

Let's not forget that this whole topic was started by someone who posted 53 posts in the span of 3 days, exclusively about Simon. That's someone with an axe to grind, and looking at the maiden subreddit he's clearly not the only one.

Also, people have been having discussions about Simon on this message board for over a year without issue, there's no "poisoning the well" lol
