Welp, another subpar game in which we squeak by with a 1-0 win. Thank God we capitalized on the Korean goalie's mistake, otherwise it would've been a 0-0 tie. We're the first country to qualify to the round of 16. I hope we beat Czechia, but if we don't improve soon we are, again, not making it past the 4th game.

We Belgians still think about that game against Mexico in World Cup France 98. A comfortable 2-0 and we could smell the victory.... But Mexico came back: 2-2. Only 3 draws in the group stage and exit for Red Devils. I have a weird feeling it could happen again.:help2:

I remember that world cup very well, we were the comeback kings lol.
I'm still not holding my breath. There is nothing about our team that screams "historic squad" like others from past world cups.

A few more days and Belgium can go home.
After 2 very disappointing games against much weaker opponents they only have 2 points instead of the expected 6. New Zealand seems allready beaten but I think they want to give everything and will play all or nothing.
We have to be at our very best, that will be a first time at this tournament, to beat them.
Honestly I think it´s time for alot of the old generation to call it a day (Meunier, De Bruyne) and the coach has to go too. We need someone to form a team with young talents like Mika Godts from Ajax who would´ve shined here. Belgium will be back like in the glory days of 10 years ago.

I think that the description of much weaker opponents is incorrect. #29 (Egypt) and #20 (Iran) aren't much weaker than #9 (Belgium)
To be honest FIFA rankings don't mean that much imo, Egypt is solid but Iran should be beatable even more with the way their players and staff have been treated this tournament (must be so tiring). Although I don't think Belgium should be #9 as well lol

The ranking has the obvious weakness that each nation will play most competitive matches against other nations from their federation, meaning each federation creates a "bubble" and any significant alignment between the bubbles only happens at the World Cup. Without the World Cup matches, it would be difficult to say whether all teams from one federation were artificially high/low.
