Paul Di'Anno

I’ve seen the Di’anno doc now. It was playing in the Odeon in Kingston Upon Thames.

Better than I feared but still fairly exploitative towards the middle and end, making something to watch out of his suffering.

Hetfield, Gary Holt, Andreas Kisser do a great job of defending Paul’s legacy as a legendary musician. Blaze helps too. These parts are very positive.

But the fact this is a descent into death - which the film maker couldn’t have known when they started - gives the whole thing an awful atmosphere.

Strange world indeed to have something like this even made. One for the completists and the Maiden cultists.

There’s pro shot footage of Maiden on stage at St Paul mind you, from Future Past 2024, so take note of that.
I definitely want to see this when I get a chance. I've been listening to The Soundhouse Tapes & Early Rare Tracks 1978-1981 in heavy rotation a lot lately. There was definitely something special there, even some songs where I don't care for the studio versions I very much enjoy the live versions on that disc.
