NOW PLAYING

Metallica has always done great covers and this album proves it.

The only time I have seen them live was on that tour.

Thankfully, I will rectify that 27 years later when I see them live in London.

I saw Metallica on the tour where they played the full Master of Puppets album at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds (an open-air park). I also saw them during the Death Magnetic tour - two back-to-back nights at the arena in Vilnius. And then again in a stadium in Riga, when they played the full Black Album.
Every time, I had a great time.

I never knew they covered Feels Like Heaven from Fiction Factory?!
A great 80´s pop song.

There are some fantastic covers in that playlist, from pop (Fiction Factory, The Cure...) to punk (The Clash), from classic rock (Chuck Berry, The Rolling Stones...) to politically charged indie (McCarthy), from post-punk (Echo & the Bunnymen) to hard rock (Alice Cooper, Guns N'Roses)...

The complete list with the original artists can be found here:

Speaking of great pop songs, I might get to hear them play one by The Cure at their Royal Albert Hall gig in a couple of weeks time:

The playlist name "Sleep Next to Plastic" persuaded me to click that link as it's a line from Camper Van Beethoven's hypercatchy song "Take the Skinheads Bowling" which I've loved since the 80s. Looking forward to checking out their cover version after work.

Tailgunner - Guns For Hire

Great debut with only 1 not so good song (Blood For Blood)! Some of the songs are pure Metallica '83 (White Death, Warhead, the title track, Crashdive, Shadows Of War) with melodic and Maiden-esque parts. All work very well. Crashdive's instrumental part is a highlight. The closing epic Rebirth is one of their best pieces, so impactful. NWOBHM done perfectly.
