Behind The Iron Curtain

For years ive believed all the tracks on this to be filmed in Poland and Hungary but google searches say Aces High and 2MTM was filmed in Hanover. Someone else said some of it was filmed at Hammy. Anyone know the real truth?

Aces High and 2MtM indeed were shot in Hannover. They did the shooting when the stage was put together for the first time, few days later they set off to Poland.

It was just around the corner from my place. :-)

I spoke with Jim Yukich myself and he confirmed that both videos were filmed in Hannover. What you're probably remembering is that the audio from the footage that appears on the long-version / DVD version of the Behind The Iron Curtain documentary is the Hammersmith (October 12 if memory serves well) concert

Would have been great to hear that audio on the LAD 40th. Maybe its just not up to quality.

Maybe concert audio is from different concert/s, not from Poland or Hungary. I think there's no video or audio from Yugoslavia concerts in that documentary, only from Poland and Hungary.

Fairly sure that the video footage on my video from back in the day was definitely not all from the same gig, just judging by crowd shots and details from the venues. Not sure what's on the DVD release or the expanded MTV version as don't think I've ever watched either

Talking about these two official videos (Aces High directed by Jim Yukich and Kenny Feuerman 2MTM only by Yukich), not documentary Behind the Iron Curtain.

.

Behind the Iron Curtain directed by Kenny Feuerman.

I still have this on VHS, what a treat it was to watch back in the day! Hard to believe it’s been 40 years. One of the many reasons I love Iron Maiden is that they went to the Eastern Bloc (thankfully they were allowed) and brought those people the incredible gift of live music and pure Maiden energy. Absolutely amazing.

Yeah, I remember watching that VHS a lot! Great memories.

We shouldn't forget that other Western bands had played behind the Iron Curtain before them: Blood, Sweat & Tears (in 1970), Cliff Richard (played in the USSR back in 1976), Queen (in 1979)… :)

Let's get one thing clear, Yugoslavia was never behind iron curtain. There was many concerts before Maiden in 1984. Dire Straits, Uriah Heep, Queen, Motörhaad, Eric Clapton, Status Quo, Tina Turner (with Ike and without him), Frank Zappa, Rolling Stones, Wings, Miles Davies, BB King, Ray Charles, The Stranglers, Slade, Louis Armstrong, Santana, Nazareth, Deep Purple, Weather Report, Lene Lovich, Joe Cocker, Jethro Tull, Talking Heads, Eric Burdon, Elton John... all these concerts were during 1970's and before Maiden second visit in august 1984.

My bad, those Queen gigs in 1979 were in Yugoslavia but they did not play behind the Iron Curtain until after Maiden had already done that. :)

Blood, Sweat & Tears and Cliff Richards (among others) did play behind the Iron Curtain before though.
