Was the album "Brave New World" like "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son" part II?

Hello guys. I often compare Iron Maiden's sound from Piece of Mind to Senjutsu when I listen to them. I would be interested to hear your opinion about the albums from the first to the last. They are still heavy metal, haven't they changed their direction?

Is there any reason you exclude the first 3 albums?
 
There’s a celestial vibe across parts of each album, certainly in Dream of Mirrors. The cover art and colours also convey the feeling of dreams … so not a comparison across the board, but something of the vibe.

They are also both fairly slickly produced maiden albums (as opposed to raw, more aggressive productions).

Yeah me too. They should have recorded a live album from earlt days tour. As far i can remember for example we only have a version of phantom of the opera with bruce from LAD.

Dream of Mirrors was (partly) written by Blaze and is about nightmares.
The Fallen Angel a fantasy story with religious influences.
The Nomad about a legendary desert figure.
OOTSP about a movie once again and TTBLAH about social commentary, again.

There's nothing tying those songs together thematically. Hell, it's difficult to tie more than two or three songs together. It's just a collection of great songs, not a concept album.

But when it comes to musical style both of these albums can be considered "soft heavy metal". I love them both and don't mean anything bad by calling them "soft", but they're definitely less heavy and aggressive compared to Maiden's previous (in regard to 7th son) and latter albums (in regard to BNW).

Not sure I agree with that.

SSOASS: Sure, you have stuff like CIPWM, which is pretty poppy and straightforward, or TETMD, which is highly melodic. But there was also stuff like Wasted Years on the previous album. There are plenty of songs on the first three albums that lack aggression. On the other hand you have SSOASS's last few minutes with a pretty aggressive solo section. Or the verses for Moonchild, which dial up the heaviness quite a bit, in contrast to the intro or the melodic chorus.

BNW: I don't see the lack of aggression here either. There's nothing like the intro to Montsegur on here, that's true, but there's a ton of heaviness on the entire album. It sounds much more polished and cleaner than the other reunion albums, but that doesn't make it a "soft" album, imo.

Not saying you are wrong for your assessment. I just see it a bit differently.

On BNW you have "Blood Brothers", it's so soft and melodic that I wouldn't call it a heavy metal song at all (I love this song btw).
Also the title track is quite un-heavy for metal standards (and it's great btw).

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree then! I don't think a song having soft parts or being melodic disqualifies it from being heavy metal.

It's got plenty of VXI's flaws but at least doesn't sound nigh-on unlistenably bad, the repetition isn't as insane as it was on the previous record and it has a literal modern classic of a lead single. And one song where the only memorable section was actually plagiarized but let's not talk about that.

Agreed, yet when it comes to repetition, it's not that much of a difference IMO. It's true it doesn't feature any TAATG or DLTTEOAS... but there are some tracks that go full Nascar effect, especially Dream Of Mirrors, the title track. And yup... Let's not mention plagiarism because there's not only The Nomad's bridge, but also The Wicker Man and even Ghost Of The Navigator's main riffs.
