Has Bruce ever sang TNOTB like the album?

Assuming you're talking about the scream, yeah, it's no surprise that it's never sounded like the studio version. That take was a fluke, a build-up of rage after being pushed ridiculous lengths to get the intro right. It's one of the hardest vocal lines in metal history; matching the note with the vocal distortion is insane. Bruce has changed it so that he has better control over it and doesn't have to worry about damaging his voice. If you listen to earlier Maiden live performances you can hear how much he struggled with it and how difficult it is to get right. No surprise it would evolve over time.

I think that the scream from the Live at Hammersmith in 1982 surpasses the one in the studio.

Here is a fun clip that has collected a scream from each year going from Bruce's performing years going from 1982-2022

1986/1987 is a favourite too. I think that the echo/reverb/whatever-the-proper-term-for-it-is adds a lot to convey the feeling of torture

Not the scream, the whole melody of the song! He’s been singing it nothing like the album for decades.

I hope this song never gets played live again. It's a good, classic song, but it's so overplayed. Don't need to hear it again. So many other songs that deserve to be played.

I can't watch this at work, so i'm curious what, specifically, is different between the live versions and the studio version? There's almost always going to be some nuance between maintaining a live vocal in the context of a 90-120 minute performance and the studio where you can complete a track in multiple takes with as much rest as you need.

This wish shall not be granted. I’d rather lose Troopee than Beast, and both of those long after Fear gets shelved
