I agree. I use Ernie Ball Primo Slinkys (9.5-44), which is the best sweet spot for string gauge. €6.90 on Thomann.

I reckon it's a mix of UV light and sun aging. If it's nitro, it happens pretty fast, giving it that classic vintage cream look. Yeah, it's a real head-scratcher. Only the wood grain and the straps could tell them apart.
