I love the Blaze era a lot, but I gotta go with Martin-era Sabbath. Headless Cross and Tyr are incredible albums and Cross Purposes is a strong third record (I don’t count Forbidden, it doesn’t exist).
Here’s the thing: Blaze era Maiden is great and I would say better than Di’Anno era Maiden...
I know the pieces fit, man. You just gotta pry open your third eye and spiral out. Keep going. Cut away, snip away, and sever your insecure delusions. Once you reach the bottom of the undertow you’ll be sober enough to escape the prison song of your intolerance. And don’t forget your pen.
With proper breath support you can do it. You’re also given enough pauses to take another breath. Bruce should’ve just done a couple more takes.
With “Lightning”, that punctuation is punishing. To properly hit each word the way Blaze does you literally can’t take a breath, ever.
Glad you liked it! Iced Earth definitely fits into a thrash-hybrid category but those riffs are some of the tightest ones in the genre.
Life has gotten in the way of me participating in the game but hopefully I’ll have a chance to check out a round eventually.
