Axl Rose on stage, fat as hell, bad voice

Man, he tried to hide the kilos with a raincoat. And failed.

First of all, he's 49. He can't scream like he used to when he was younger. I checked some videos few days ago, and he still sounds good enough for me to go to G'N'R concert. (Unfortunately, I missed their concert last year 'cause I spent all my money). And who cares if he's fat?
Btw. it was raining heavily during the whole show.

He sounds decent. I used to love this song. And that guy playing the guitar has a kickass beard, but he's no Slash.

I saw them last year (set) and Axl sounded fine to me. Many friends said "Why do you want to see them? All the rest of the band left" ... so? ... different guitarists playing the same song will sound similar, but a different vocalist won't... and besides, I've seen Slash and VR anyway. I thoroughly enjoyed the gig.

As NP posted in IRC: http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbe ... mID=132278 that's a fcking immense setlist.

Just came back from G'N'R concert. It was beyond amazing :edmetal: Axl's bad performance on that RIR video was really because of an infection/disease, cause he sounded phenomenal during this whole night. As for the band... Everyone nailed their parts, some great solos/covers there. IMO Bumblefoot > Ashba >>>>> Fortus. Also, they played for 3 HOURS AND 10 MINUTES. Everyone being critical of Axl/New G'N'R should check them out live then complain.

Ashba >>>>> Fortus

Lol!

Glad you had a great night, though. How was Bumblefoot's new solo? I haven't seen his Glad to Be Here solo yet except for some crappy YouTube videos.

Yeah, Axl had bronchitis apparently. He still isn't quite in tip-top shape (like '06 or '10), but he still sounds great.

What's funny? :P Ashba nailed all solos, had a much better solo section and is overall a much better performer than Fortus. I dunno why Fortus is still in the band, now that Izzy and Axl are on good terms, Izzy should just come back to the band and replace him.
Glad To Be Here is a meh song, I'd prefer if he played Pink Panther solo.

DJ usually messes up a lot (especially on Better and Sweet Child) and sounds weird on the This I Love solo. :p And Fortus's James Bond solo when I saw the band was awesome! I agree with bringing Izzy back, though. Axl said once that if he ever reunited with the old band, he wouldn't want Izzy or Steven back in the band because they're so flaky. I'd imagine that's partly why Izzy's not there. I also doubt Izzy would really want to do a tour like that anymore. It's a shame, though. He's my favorite former member.

I posted something similar a while back, but earlier this year I saw G'n'R at the Wiltern in LA. I went in with moderate expectations. I was blown away. Truly an awesome live show. Axl sounded great, the guitarists nailed their parts (shows how good Slash is that Axl needs three guitarists to divide up his solos). Plus, the female, um, "talent" in the crowd was much better than I expected. Let's put it this way, the crowd looked a helluva lot different than the last Maiden and Priest shows I saw. :innocent:

I was there! Best show I've ever been to. And Axl was in a great mood. I remember getting excited when he sang the, "With your ass in the air," line during You Could Be Mine since he hadn't done it very often during the UCAP tour.

I don't think Axl necessarily needs three guitarists to cover Slash's parts. I think the story was that Robin Finck joined the band to replace Slash, and then he left and was replaced with Buckethead, but he wanted to come back, so Axl took him back as a second lead player. :)

There's no requirement for 3 guitarists to cover slash, Bumblefoot is a better player tbh. Ashba was the last of the guitarists to join the band if I remember right.. so there's no reason for having 3 guitarists other than there was 3 guitarists around that he wanted. I agree with Prowler, Bumblefoot > Asbha >>>>> Fortus. Even just on the way they look I think (bizarrely given Ashba :P) Fortus looks the wierdest :P

I can't say the band LOOKS like it should be playing the music it is, Axl's gone from rough edged t-shirts and energy to some sort of Elton John with more jewelry thing. Ashba actually looks the most 'RnR' to me.

I saw them in 2010 and thought the show was fantastic, they were apparently 30 minutes late but it was 30 minutes after the previous band went off so... seems about right to me. Not as long a show as Prowlers though :( Axl may be a pre-madonna at times but TBH there aren't many other acts that put on 3 hour shows (even if there are that many solo's :P)

Yeah, I prefer Ballad of Death.

For me, Ashba's too sloppy and takes too many shortcuts (see This I Love's solo for the most obvious shortcuts). Besides, this solo trumps DJ's AND Ron's.

In terms of just looks, I actually think Fortus looks the most like a Guns N' Roses member and Ron looks the least like one. DJ kind of comes off like he's trying too hard, and he doesn't have the chops to do that. Plus, I hate the way he does the Jungle intro with the little bends. And then he puts his hand to his ear like he's Hulk Hogan. :p But I like his enthusiasm and Axl seems to really like him, so maybe the next album will come out quicker. It sounds like they're starting from scratch, which is a real shame because they have at least two more albums' worth of Buckethead/Finck material that I'd kill to hear.

I think Civil War was the first time I thought to myself, "My god, these guys have brains in their heads?" It was a refreshing change of pace from their other songs, which while fun, weren't all that deep. I always enjoyed GNR, especially in high school. It's too bad that the whole thing imploded, and the guys had to go their separate ways, but if they're all able to keep making music, eh...that's how these thing work sometimes. Sometimes bands part as friends, but more often than not, it's like an ugly divorce.

That pic of Axl has to be one of the worst I've seen, though. The raincoat's not helping much either, but I think it's largely the angle (picture taken from below so it looks like he has a double chin). I watched the video, and while he doesn't sound great, I still would probably be rockin' out to the songs.

I think the moral of the story is that it sucks to get old. There are only a few guys who make it past 50 who stay slim (Iggy Pop, David Bowie, and of course, Bruce Dickinson immediately come to mind), and even they are likely bigger than they were in their 20s. Also, a lot of men who are older and slim end up with a ton of wrinkles (see Iggy Pop), so sometimes being a little chunky helps you look younger. There are certainly more monstrous celebrities out there --- seen Robert Smith of The Cure lately?
