just found out some intresting things about the IOA Avalon is now known as Glastonbury Avalon is a welch word for apple. Here is what i think the song will be about:Avalon was where King Arthur went to heal his wounds his sword (excalibur) was forged there (there is a lot more to it but im lazy. Im gonna guess the lyrics will be by Steve
The song was going well until they went to this boring ass riff which pretty much killed things for me. Oh and the transition into the reprise of the intro was pretty shit. The rest of the song is quite strong, and as a result this is on of my favs.
This is my favorite song they've done since Paschendale at least, and maybe much earlier. It's been on loop for quite a while.
Wow, you do not see too many bands at this stage of their career keep coming up with some of their best work. What a fantastic song this is (the whoe album seems really godo at first spin), but this sond is off the charts. Cannot wait to get the actual record in my hand. I'll be blasting the living hell out of this for some time.
I can hear them floating on the wind Immortal souls their weeping saddens me Mother earth you know your time is near Awaken lust the seed is sown and reaped Through the western Isle I hear the dead awaken Rising slowly to the court of Avalon The cauldron of the head of Annwyn laced with envy Dark around its edge with pearl and destiny All my days I've waited for the sign The one that brings me closer to Isle of Avalon I can feel the power flowing through my veins My heart is beating louder, close to Avalon I can hear you, can you hear me? I can feel you, can't you feel me? Fertility Mother Goddess Celebration, sow the seeds of the born The fruit of her body laden through the corn doll You will pray for them all The image of Mother Goddess Lying dormant, in the eyes of the dead The sheaf of the corn is broken End the harvest, throw the dead of the pyre I hear her crying the tears of an angel The voices I hear in my head Blessed the fruits are the corn of the earth Mother earth holy blood of the dead [guitar solo] Mother earth I can hear you Sacrifice, now united Rising levels of the tidal lakes protect them Keepers of the Goddess in the underworld Holding powers of the mystics, deep inside them Nineteen maidens, guardians of the otherworld Mortal conflict born of Celtic legend That apart from seven, non-returned from Avalon Mother earth I can feel you My rebirth now completed Fertility Mother Goddess Celebration, sow the seeds of the born The fruits of her body laden through the corn doll You will pray for them all The image of Mother Goddess Lying dormant, in the eyes of the dead The sheaf of the corn is broken End the harvest, throw the dead on the pyre To have the belief of others Looking for the Isle to show them a sign Fertility of all mothers stood in silence Waiting now for their turn The gateway to Avalon The island where the souls of dead are reborn Brought here to die and be transferred into the earth And then for rebirth I hear her crying the tears of an Angel The voices I hear in my head Blessed the fruits are the corn of the earth Mother earth holy blood of the dead The water in rivers and rhymes rises quickly Are flowing and flooding the land The sea shall return once again just to hide them Lost souls on the Isle of the dead
Corrections and additions in RED below... Edit: fixed a mistake I made Will do more tomorrow after work. For now, it's late. Also fixed up WTWWB and MOM.
There is a guitar lick a few times in this song (after 7:25) that is the same as the one in No More Lies (at 4:30).
My best song of the album. Once again I love the theme /lyrics as well as the unusual elements of the song as the solo for instance. Not an easy listen. On a side note, this is easily the most Celtic Maiden record ever.
I pointed it out on some other thread when Khan posted the excerpt about the other world - Annwyn. It right away reminded of the drawing down the moon ritual, the beacon hill and the fire spreading all over the land, but specially the lyrics to Return Of The King which apparently has a stronger connection to Isle Of Avalon. I won't read any lyrics, though, 'till next Monday.
