World's fastest drummer contest

Eddie's Lil Helper

Ancient Mariner
Folks in Nashville, Tennessee, will soon march to the beat of a different drummer — about 1100 drum beats per minute, according to NCBuy.com.

The city is hosting the National Association of Music Merchants' International Fastest Drummer Contest, July 18-20, which is looking for the fastest hands and feet in the drum business.

Judges will use a "drumometer" — a digital display box that counts the number of drum beats made each minute.

The current record for drumming with sticks is 1152 beats per minute, drumming with just hands is 1138 beats per minute, and drumming with double foot pedals is 1030 beats per minute

Co-creator of the drumometer Boo McAfee says relaxation, muscle control, physics and breathing are key to drumming fast.

McAfee, who is co-organizing the drum-off, says he's confident that someone will break some records at the event.
