Mosh, I think you are a bit hard on Iron Savior (without "u" ;-) )here. Hope you don't mind that I "defend" them a bit, or at least explain what I like about this song.
Bland? It has a great instrumental piece and chorus. And I have heard worse singers in this genre. The drums by Thomen Stauch are absolutely top notch.
Also, I do not find the musical identity argument that accurate (or fair). Piet Sielck was involved in an early incarnation of Helloween (before they had that name), so in a way you can say he co-shaped identities of other bands. I have a problem with some later Iron Savior songs since they sounds too much like Priest (in an unoriginal manner), but especially songs like Riding On Fire, that is the kind of metal of their "own" that I want to hear from this band. This song is from the debut album, from 1997. Basically it's Sielck's first real full album that he did. Before he worked as a producer and engineer with various bands (e.g. Blind Guardian) in the studio (also providing backing vocals and such). I wouldn't know what other sort of metal I would expect from someone with his background and taste, making his debut.
This is one of the faster Iron Savior songs, and I honestly find it very captivating and melodic (melodies are important, aren't they?) metal. It's fast, yes (for some reason I feel that speed works against the taste of some people on this forum), but the song still stands firm. The timing of the vocals, the solos, all in order. Those harmonies in that instrumental break are so menacing that they sound like riffs. There's also a calm intermezzo with acoustic guitars.
