Dimmu Borgir - Spellbound (By The Devil)
Gates Of Ishtar - Into Seasons Of Frost
Mastodon - Blood & Thunder
Nightrage - Poems
Rotting Christ - Among Two Storms

Nice harsh vocal round !

I find all songs very nice to be honest, but I am voting for the songs that I find fantastic:

Dimmu Borgir
Black metal optima forma, although it has the speed, fast changes and density of death metal. Bombastic, yet still very direct. Brute yet melodic!

Gates of Isthar
This band is a real gem from the rich Swedish death metal explosion. Their songs (especially from this album A Bloodred Path which is metal perfection) had intense vocals and outstanding drums, and the guitarists had a good ear for melody. But in this song, there's more:

People who will endure the aggression of the first minutes (which still features the most honest, energetic and spirited -as if possessed!- drums from the tournament, plus cool guitar harmonies) will be rewarded by a beautiful melodic piece of mystery. It's a very cool atmospheric interlude if you ask me, probably intensified by the keyboards. Listen to the simple accents by the drummer and how he changes his playing in the next rounds. :notworthy:

Alright. I especially intended to explain what I like about the songs I am voting for, but if you're curious I can do the others as well.

My opinion:

Dimmu - It's cool, but I was never a big fan of this band... Most of their good songs sound like this. Symphonic intro, raging verses/chorus, then a blast-beat bridge + solo. Pretty much all their well-known songs are like this.

Ishtar - On its own doesn't do much for me... Cool production/sound though, can't complain about anything in particular from it. I'll need to listen to the album.

Mastodon - Classic song. Probably one of the catchiest songs in the game. Yeah, the vocals are growls (although quite weak ones), but there's a melodic bridge so there's no place for "it's not melodic" complaints :p

Nightrage/Rotting Christ - I picked these two songs because they feature growls, but musically they are almost pure heavy metal (even though the bands themselves aren't). Thought it could appeal to growl haters :p Nightrage's song has an awesome guitar solo courtesy of Gus G (Firewind, Ozzy Osbourne), who plays on first two Nightrage records. And the vocals are done by Tompa from At The Gates, so it's kind of a supergroup.

On Dimmu: Well, there's a reason for me not being a big fan of Dimmu, but still at the same time liking this particular song: It's a classic, and more memorable than most other stuff they did.

Ishtar, Nightrage. I wasn't particularly enthused by much here, but quite liked that atmospheric middle section in Into Seasons of Frost, and found Poems pretty solid and enjoyable throughout. Afraid to say Mastodon is a band where I really don't see what the fuss is about. I've actually seen them twice at festivals now, and really can't have been paying much attention because I remember very little of them. The Trooper (as in the beer) was only partly responsible for this.

Gates of Ishtar and Rotting Christ. Nightrage was pretty good too, Dimmu Borgir and Mastodon were OK.
