So the other day I got the urge to listen to some early Sabbath, when I realized that I've never really explored Heavy Metal in terms of years. i.e. I've never listened to just albums from 1980. I imagine I'd get a different sense of context when listening to Heaven and Hell, British Steel, and Iron Maiden back to back to back. I've done full discography listens of a lot of these bands, but never explorations of different eras. So I decided I'd start doing just that. Using Black Sabbath's first album as a benchmark, I'd go year to year starting with 1970 and listen to both classic/essential albums from each year as well as some hidden gems. Hopefully this not only gives me new context for albums I already know well, but also helps me find new appreciation for some and maybe discover some that I missed. This will also help me get more into genres that I'm less familiar with (mainly extreme metal genres). I plan on doing this slowly so i can fully digest what I hear.
