Perfect Album For Each Era: BNW, DOD, AMOLAD

mozzle

Trooper
Okay. So the way it works is we break up the albums by era and make threads for each. In other words it would look like this:

Thread 1:   Iron Maiden and Killers
Thread 2:   Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, and Powerslave
Thread 3:   Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son of A Seventh Son
Thread 4:   No Prayer for the Dying and Fear of the Dark
Thread 5:   The X-Factor and Virtual XI
Thread 6:   Brave New World, Dance of Death and A Matter of Life and Death

Now, I started with the current "reunion" era first. What we have to do, is make  "one perfect ten track album" for each era. Make sense? Lets give it a try.

At the very end, we can rank our perfect era albums, from best era to worst, judging based solely off of our "Perfect Era Albums" rather then the entire era itself.

BNW DOD AMOLAD

My perfect ten track reunion album would be:

1. The Wicker Man
2. Brighter Then A Thousand Suns
3. Brave New World
4. Dance of Death
5. Rainmaker
6. Dream of Mirrors
7. Blood Brothers
8. Paschendale
9. Face In The Sand
10. The Thin Line Between Love and Hate

In my opinion that is a perfect "Reunion" album. 72 minutes of pure awesome.

Only one song from AMOLAD which surprised me. because I find it a stronger album then DoD. I think the problem is that it's consistently good. Nothing bad, but nothing life changing. Dance of Death on the other hand has some real weak tracks, but some amazing ones as well.

What's your perfect 10 track reunion album?

If one replaces The Thin Line Between Love And Hate with The Legacy, one gets a little more balance between the albums, the playlength is about the same, and we get an even better album closer  :D

So just the 10 best songs?

The Wicker Man
Brave New World
Blood Brothers

Dance of Death
The Longest Day
Dream of Mirrors
Rainmaker
Paschendale

For the Greater Good of God
These Colours Don't Run

Rainmaker is moved down the order to break up the relentless nature of some of the later songs. I couldn't justify an album closer being in ahead of any of these songs so those 3 got sahfted (although they would make up 3 of the next 4 songs along with Ghost of the Navigator). These Colours Don't Run has a nice outro so it's fitting it would end the album.

The Wicker Man
Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
Rainmaker
Dream Of Mirrors
Brave New World
Age Of Innocence
Paschendale
The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg
Out Of The Silent Planet
The Thin Line Between Love And Hate

Total Time: 69:39

You have to fit it on an 80 minute CD.

Edit: You may be wondering why I get to come into mozzle's thread and arbitrarily add restrictions. The answer is simple. Unless you'd rather be a fool…the Mod Rules!
The Wicker Man
These Colours Don't Run
Ghost of the Navigator
Brave New World
The Longest Day
Rainmaker
Brighter Than a Thousand Suns
The Nomad
Dream of Mirrors
Paschenfuckingdale

Also, not having Paschendale on this disc may be grounds for banning.

1. The Wicker Man
2. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
3. Rainmaker
4. Brave New World
5. The Longest Day
6. Dance Of Death
7. Blood Brothers
8. Paschendale
9. The Nomad
10. The Legacy

I've given my previous list a second thought, added Brave New World and changed the order. Here is the track list:

The Wicker Man
These Colours Don't Run
Brave New World
Blood Brothers
Rainmaker
Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
Ghost of the Navigator
Dance of Death
Paschendale
The Legacy

Total running time: 70:53.

1. The Wicker Man
2. Rainmaker
3. The Fallen Angel
4. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
5. Dance of Death
6. Blood Brothers
7. Out of The Silent Planet
8. Paschendale
9. Lord of Light
10. The Legacy

01. Dance Of Death
02. These Colours Don’t Run
03. Ghost Of The Navigator
04. Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
05. The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg
06. The Pilgrim
07. The Legacy
08. Brave New World
09. Lord Of Light
10. Paschendale

6 songs from AMOLAD, but I do not necessarily find these the best ones from this top 10. In fact I find the songs from BNW and DOD better, all four of 'em. My biggest doubt was The Legacy: it just won from The Mercenary (11), The Wicker Man (12) and Rainmaker (13). I have trouble making a fine order because I like to mix the different album songs, but it's quite hard when I have 6 of one album and there are so many epics.

Edit This also includes "Prisoner Of Maiden's" vote

Here is a quick update.

The Top 9 songs so far are:

Dance of Death 9
Pachendale 9

The Wicker Man 8
Brighter Then A Thousand Suns 8
Brave New World 7
Rainmaker 7
These Colours Don’t Run 5
Blood Brothers  5
The Legacy 5

These three are tied for 10th place.

Dream of Mirrors 3
The Longest Day 3
Ghost of the Navigator 3
The Thin Line Between Love and Hate 3
The Reincarnation of Ben Breeg 3

Now I'm thinking we will have a group "best of era album" as well as are own personal "best of era album". At the very end we will have a poll for which group era is the best, as well as talk about our own personal "best of era album"

If one replaces The Thin Line Between Love And Hate with The Legacy, one gets a little more balance between the albums, the playlength is about the same, and we get an even better album closer

Madness I say!

This is an awesome idea, I'm going to make a playlist for each era now.

I didn't look at any of your guys playlist before making this so here it is

BNW DOD AMOLAD

The Wicker Man
Dance of Death
The Reincarnation Of Benjamin Breeg
Paschendale
Brighter Then A Thousand Suns
Face in the sand
The Legacy
Journeyman
Blood Brothers
The Thing Line Between Love And Hate
Total time: 76.20

Wow that was as hard as picking your favorite child. I've never thought about what album is my favorite from each era because I love them all, but I guess Dance of Death wins if we go by this.
