Sometimes I wish I was a standard science nerd. While there's hundreds of discussions I've had with my peers that compare with the above, to explain them to normal people, you'd usually have to build up an entire lecture to explain one punchline. We once wrote a song about Zarathustra that was absolutely bloody hilarious, but it takes four years of academic studies to get it.
 
:D Since I used the later years of my academic career to dive into the mysterious world of process control. I understand you perfectly. For each year, fewer and fewer people could get the jokes. General chemistry jokes will hit home with almost all my university friends, but I think I know less than 20 people who will get the process control jokes.
 
During a lecture, I once drew a mock poster for a variety show I dubbed "Mullah Rouge" which had the picture of a few dancing ayatollahs and a number of fake press reviews full of awful Shi'ite puns. My neighbour saw it and passed it to hers and soon the entire half of the room was in stitches. Somebody was doing a serious and deep rant on the social effects of the Iran-Iraq War when all of the sudden my lecturer burst out in her notoriously loud, crackling laughter because she had seen my drawing. I was terrified! :eek:
