Inspired by the great Forostar thread, i'll do this list of all songs that've been captured on pro bootlegs. Initially, i'll only list those that were, and add bootleg information afterwards. Pro-recorded audio bootlegs come from the soundboard, either a direct tap, or the FM transmission / webcast. Pro-recorded video bootlegs are done from TV broadcasts / webcasts, and nowadays from show video screens feed. In either case, the recording is done via a professional, setup-ed gear. I won't list official live audio/video releases. Only if they have a bootleg (such as Rock In Rio + some DOTR parts, etc...). I won't list bootlegged imports - for instance, there's a pro-bootleg of Maiden England circulating around, but it's just a laserdisc rip from Japanese market official release. I won't list bootleg as audio if the source of the audio was video bootleg (for instance TV recording). Of course, if i miss something, don't hesitate to comment! Let's try building this topic as a further reference for our fellow forumers. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Prowler : audio, video Sanctuary : audio, video Remember Tommorow : audio, video Running Free : audio, video Phantom Of The Opera : audio, video Transylvania : audio, video Iron Maiden : audio, video Wrathchild : audio, video Murders In The Rue Morgue : audio, video Another Life : audio, video Genghis Khan : audio Innocent Exile : audio, video Killers : audio, video Twilight Zone : audio, video Purgatory : audio Drifter : audio, video Children Of The Damned : audio, video The Prisoner : audio, video 22 Acacia Avenue : audio, video The Number Of The Beast : audio, video Run To The Hills : audio, video Total Eclipse : audio, video Hallowed Be Thy Name : audio, video Where Eagles Dare : audio, video Flight Of Icarus : audio, video Revelations : audio, video Die With Your Boots On : audio, video The Trooper : audio, video Still Life : audio Aces High : audio, video - Cool. I am curious about the bootleg info. Already a question: CSIT, you don't mean the 12 Wasted Years version? I know we see filmed footage (I assume made by Japanese TV, or else the Maiden crew themselves) but somehow it sounds like the studio version to me, not? Haven't seen it for a while, but that's what I remember. It can also be the intro that is the studio tape only. Cheers!
Hmm alright, but according to Rod Smallwood there was no footage at all. Someone needs to inform him. How good is the quality? And is it stereo? And what is the definition of pro shot? More than one camera?
I think it's mostly shots done for TV broadcast and the likes. Maybe it includes shots for video screens, although I have no idea about the presence of such screens in earlier gigs. Technically, footage recorded by professionals.
^ right. I'm going to update my post with some extra info + description, to avoid confusion. @Foro, Spectrum '87 comes from TV broadcast but the master tapes were already damaged when the bootlegger got them. CSIT has a few "holes" before the first chorus, there's tape his all over the place, but it's indeed pro-shot with multiple cameras and the audio is good, considering the lack of pro-recorded Somewhere On Tour material.
Thanks guys! I have this gig (plus 17 other Somewhere On Tour-gigs) on mp3, but this bootleg version has only 9 tracks (not CSIT).
Updated for SIT. Take a look at one frequently played song (HCW), and see what amount of time this is going to take.
A lot indeed! Man, this page is a lot of work, and very handy for those who want to track down quality live versions. I was there. I find that one of the best sounding Maiden boots.
I'll get that bootleg. Regarding that particular tour, i haven't seen Camden tape yet, but the Rock Am Ring one is...meh. The audience is shitty and the sound is too soft.

Updated Powerslave. Foro, have you seen this : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N757B1J9S-I ? There's some pro-shot CSIT, but same as 12 Wasted Years, it's overdubbed by studio track. Also, interview with Steve @ Toronto 1987... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0cTyuLBFhI . Speaks about stage show, mentiones inflatable spaceships?! Jesus, i wish some true pro multi-cam material will surface eventually...Somewhere On Tour was their most elaborate (in terms of stage show) and most expensive tour ever.
Zare, I'll get back to you later. Tomorrow more time to check this all out, I hope. In the meantime a question for you: how many boots do you have (e.g. in mp3 or other file/carrier) of the Somewhere on Tour? Maybe I could provide you with some in mp3, though I know you prefer lossless (or at least good) formats.
More elaborate than World Slavery Tour? Judging from the footage I've seen, yes, it did have the giant inflatable Eddie and Bruce had his glowing jacket, but other than that...
I would suggest you watched some more footage, then. Like this or this (no sound, but you get a better look at all those flickering lights, which alone is more elaborate than anything World Slavery had). I couldn't find a clip with the walk-on Eddie, though.
@Ranko, the main stage construction, that of left and right from the drumkit, was angled on all sides, unlike the simple boxes that they used on WS tour and all recent tours. Also, it had shaped surfaces on basic textured surface with metal decorations mounted, etc, again unlike their typical thing where they just dress up the boxes and mount a few extra lighted elements. The backdrop was spot-lighted, like that spaceship cockpit backdrop they used on Walking On Glass, where the alien (or whatever) was lighted differently than rest of the backdrop, to give it extra feel. Pyro and smokes were excellent, definetly the best they ever had, they had retractable laser gun Bruce used to operate during HCW, the giant inflatable Eddie with giant claws, a few details from album cover lighting up to the rhythm, "ceiling" retractable console with weird lightning (disco ball 2200 A.D. sort of), and now Harris mentiones even more inflatables. Really, i'm really sad that we don't have a LAD / Maiden England equivalent of that tour. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOWYPbD77Ks <- scroll to 1:25 mark. @Foro, thanks mate, no need to transfer. I'm member of lossless Iron Maiden bootleg DC++ hub and i can get whatever i want there in lossless formats. I have Belgrade, Bristol, Sheffield (the good Bruce night), Philadelphia, Chicago and Osaka of audio, and Sheffield (the ill Bruce night), Gothenburg, Paris, New York and Philadelphia of video. I'm not a collectivist and i don't feel an urge to have every single bootleg...having said that, i've sampled most of available SOT bootlegs and IMHO my collection represents the best quality ones with all setlist variations. However, if you think i should get any more, point the right ones, and i'll get them of the hub. By the way, the Rosemont Horizon, Chicago is somewhere listed as soundboard sourced pro-bootleg. The sound is really good but it's still mono, which points me to amateur recording, but sometimes the whole crowd is loud and clear in the mix, and that's the trademark of pro bootlegs...in any case, give it an extra spin if you haven't noticed it's quality (but no Sea Of Madness - USA leg of tour...)
Yeah, check out the laser gun battle here. I wish they could recover the source material from this one and restore it professionally. It looks like a perfectly well done recording.
Still really cool and rare footage. Thanks. Agreed. And the bootlegs from that time are extra special because it's the only Bruce era tour without officially released live material. Thanks for the links, hadn't seen them yet. I like it that Steve criticizes the Toronto audience, pretty honest of him! I will spin some boots you didn't list and see if I like the sound (pro or not) better or at least good as the one you did list. We could this for other tours as well. I think the Seventh Son tour also has a few good sounding boots which might not be pro.
This material is useless for official releases. The story behind it goes something like bootlegger getting access to master tapes, years after the show, tapes already damaged. The quality you have on the lossless DVD boot is the source quality. Beyond repair. In any case, recording has pro quality but it's far from being "well done". As i can see, there's one camera @ mixboard and one (or perhaps two) between the stage and the audience. You don't see Nicko at all, there are no wide plans that record whole stage and effects...
Thanks Perun and Zare, when I started looking at those clips it came to me that the only piece of SIT tour I ever saw was just the Stranger In A Strange Land official video, and judged the whole tour by that. Too bad that all tour footage is either lost, destroyed or poor in quality.
Last night I watched the first part of this gig (see here for yourselves) and I was very impressed. Smith was so fucking good! He played with such ease, very fast and flexible finger work. That execution, the speed, control and sound of his solos is especially a joy to watch! Don't get me wrong, he's still great, but something possessed him in 1986. He did not only write some of his best songs (by himself), he also was at the peak of his live playing. My 2 cents. This gig was not pro-shot but the sound is hardly worse. I'll say it's even better than some pro shot gigs.
