Developing better melodic ideas

Hey.

Just a quick intro from a new member then into the point. Hey guys, my name is Alex and Iron Maiden inspired me to pick up the guitar, which I've been whacking at for a little while now.

Okay, that said, I need to work on my improvisation. I generally tend to use the Minor Pentatonic, Melodic Minor and Harmonic Minor scales. My main issue is improvising solos that are interesting and, for lack of a better term, flow. Stuff like using position changes and key changes subtly and generally just coming up with appealing melodic phrases.
I know quite a lot of Maiden and Sabbath licks and phrases which form my inspiration, so while I guess there is a bit of classical sauce in my playing I'm coming from a rock/blues angle rather than a full on shred angle. Just FYI, Dave Murray is the Maiden guitarist that I take most inspiration from, I rather do like my legato stuffs.

Thanks for any feedback at all.  :)
