My votes:

Easy first pair, my pick for #1 is there. Sweet Child O' Mine
Tactical desperation. I'd rather see the Stones advance here. Beast Of Burden
This song is a contender for Scorpions' best, but the Clash fuckin' rocked it. Should I Stay Or Should I Go
Very tough on the last pair. I was tempted to give to U2 because it's not a cover, but MM is one of the best covers ever. Seeing them pull it off live in that video clinched it. Blinded By The Light

Sweet Child, Spirit of the Radio, No One Like You, New Year's Day.
Pair three was the toughest. I was all set to go for the Clash, but Scorpions were too good.

I love Separate Ways and I generally hate Guns 'N Roses, but Sweet Child of Mine is a brilliant song.

RUSH!

No One Like...You!

Revved up like a douche.

The two songs are worlds apart in terms of quality. "Sweet Child O' Mine".
The words of the prophet were ghostwritten by Adrian Smith.
I already said I like The Clash more than Scorpions.
I'm with SMX; the live video clinches it for "Blinded by the Light".

Revved up like a douche.

"... like a "deuce [coupe] ..."
  • Sweet Child o' Mine is easy.
  • Rush, if for no other reason than the Simon & Garfunkel homage.
  • Tough matchup in round 3. Not my favorite Clash song, and I voted for the Scorps. Weird results here: "Rock You Like a Hurricane" is currently beating "Train in Vain" in Round 22, but in this round, "Should I Stay..." is beating "No One Like You." You guys got it wrong both times: "No One Like You" is far superior to "Hurricane," and "Train in Vain" is better than "Should I Stay"! (Not too late to change your votes and bring reason and accountability to the voting.)
  • Funny that the only Bruce Springsteen song that seems to be advancing is MM's cover. I don't get the voting on this at all. "New Year's Day" is clearly better, more edgy, rocks harder. Manfred Mann wouldn't be out of place on an easy listening station. I mean, "Chopsticks," really?? I thought this was a rock/metal forum! For shame.

:p

My votes:

The more epic Floyd. Shine On You Crazy Diamond
@Night Prowler - "Hey Joe" is actually a cover, consider it for your game please. :ok:
Nonetheless, I am progsnob. Come Sail Away
Love this Police song. Message In A Bottle
Hate this Bad Company song. What Is And What Should Never Be

"Comfortably Numb" packs similar punch in fewer minutes.
Hendrix over Styx any time.
"Message in a Bottle" is probably the best Police song.
Zeppelin. "What should never be" aptly describes the Bad Company song.

We've reached Phase Three, the top 25% of the original list. All the remaining songs are very famous, so I won't be posting videos anymore. Please search YouTube if you need help.

"Dream On" (Aerosmith) [16] vs. "Breakdown" (Tom Petty) [369]

"Dreams" (Fleetwood Mac) [305] vs. "Twilight Zone" (Golden Earring) [336]

"Sunday Bloody Sunday" (U2) [17] vs. "Rhiannon" (Fleetwood Mac) [401]

"Changes" (David Bowie) [209] vs. "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" (Joan Jett) [81]

One day left for Round 30
Also open: Round 31 , Round 32

My votes:

Petty's song is very good, but I like the detail in the arrangement on the Aerosmith song. Dream On
I'm still not much of a Fleetwood Mac fan, so I'll vote for the epic guitar solo... Twilight Zone
...and the classic drum intro. Sunday Bloody Sunday
Choose the right Joan Jett song (e.g. "Bad Reputation") and it beats any Bowie without Queen. But here, Changes.

It's all about the matchups, isn't it. Rhiannon would probably get my vote versus at least 5 (and maybe all 6) of the other songs, but it can't beat U2.
