Your Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 10 Vocalists

ABandOn

.:The Final Frontier:.
From Blabbermouth:

Rob Halford (JUDAS PRIEST), Robert Plant (LED ZEPPELIN) and Ronnie James Dio (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) are among the singers who appear on Hit Parader magazine's list of "Heavy Metal's All-Time Top 100 Vocalists" (published in the November 2006 issue).

Commented the editors of the magazine: "Assembling our list certainly presented a daunting task considering the breadth and scope of the metal empire during its 35-year reign as rock's most powerful and enduring force. We tried our best not to turn this into some sort of popularity contest where only the most famous (or infamous) frontmen in metal lore were recognized. Sure, the likes of Plant, Halford and Tyler are here, but so are such oft-overlooked notables Mogg, Owens and Sandoval."

Here are the first 10:
01. Robert Plant
02. Rob Halford
03. Steven Tyler
04. Chris Cornell
05. Bon Scott
06. Freddie Mercury
07. Bruce Dickinson
08. Ozzy Osbourne
09. Paul Rodgers
10. Ronnie James Dio

What do you think about it? I'm willing to hear your opinions :)

* Phil Lynott
* Ian Parry
* Dave De Feis
* Jorn Lande
* Ray Alder
* Jon Oliva

Apparantly Rod Stewart features in that article.

Enough said.

Kurt Cobain is in the top twenty? How is Nirvana Heavy Metal? And since when can Kurt Cobain really sing?
Anyway, as long as Bruce is up there together with Dio, Rose and Halford, I'm happy.

That list is just shocking in how bad it is -_-

Anywho, my top ten:

2. Martin Walkyier (Sabbat, Ex-Skycald)
3. Tom Cunningham (Mass Extinction)
4. Eric Adams (Manowar)

Now, those that may care to take my music taste into consideration may know why I have singled out the above - especially Russ Anderson as he has the best voice in thrash (and Souza does the best "Bonn Scott" of 'em all). I have not shyed from my admiration of Bruce and Blaze, but I really do appreciate these guys also. And John K from Biomechanical is up there with the best.

But Gillan is the best vocalist of almost any genre and David Bryon of Uriah Heep has the "purest" vocals.

Had unfortunately. His voice has changed for the worse over the past decade or so, he no longer has the clarity or the range that he once had, and he seems deeper than before. My evidence is this, it might be a change in singing style, but I don't think so. He struggles with the mid-song scream in the video there, and just doesn't seem to have his wonderful ability anymore. I hope that it was just an off-day, as Paul Bostoph said that a Forbidden reunion might be on the cards, when I was talking to him last month, and to see them live would just be amazing, especially with a Russ that can sing like he used to. [/off topic]

Point taken Hunlord. He is a far better vocalists than that showing. I do hope it was a one off.

Point of note: My first ever CD album purchased was Forbidden Evil. :D

Ray Gillen (number 100) should have scored much better than that. For the ones who didn't know him yet, he was singing live gigs with Black Sabbath in 1986 (from 29th of March) and he did the demoes of the The Eternal Idol album (first Sabbath album with Tony Martin on vocals).

Great voice !

I'll torture my brains thinking of the ultimate top 10 for me. :)

...And I think that Tony Martin is a better vocalist than many guys who are on that (pretty weird) magazine's list  -_-

1. Lemmy (Motorhead).
2. Bruce Dickinson(Iron Maiden)
3. Bon Scott(ac/dc)
4. Udo Dirkschneider(Accept and U.D.O.)
5. Ronny James Dio (Dio)
6. Jimi Hendrix
Got to be my top 6 at least legends in there own right

It´s really hard to make such list...but I´ll try:
*Bruce Dickinson
*Rob Halford
*Ronnie James Dio
*Tony Martin
*Ian Gillan
*Geoff Tate
*Eric Adams
*Adrián Barilari
*Michael Kiske
*Ralf Scheepers

For what it's worth...

Freddie Mercury
Bruce Dickinson
Ronnie James Dio
Ian Gillan
David Byron
Rob Halford
Axl Rose
Hansi Kürsch
Ian Anderson
Blaze Bayley

I know it's not exclusively Metal, but I don't care. At least I stayed in the wider ranges of hard rock.
