what is your favorite "epic" Maiden song?

mess with me and i'll pull out my rocket on you
I was wondering what everyone's favorite Maiden "long" song was................

This is difficult for me.........but i have to go with "Seventh Son of a Seventh Son"

Beautifully arranged and still rocks, but seems nice and progressive to me, Love it!

Up until this time Rime of the Ancient Mariner was my favorite, but I'm afraid:

after seeing Seventh Son of a Seventh Son live from this tour, that song has skyrocketed up to the top in my book

I don't know what it is about hearing songs live, because I'd listened to the latter song hundreds of time from the studio album, but hearing it live has made it surpass Rime of the Ancient Mariner for me

If Starblind would be considered an epic, then that's my choice. Purely beautiful music and wonderful poetic lyrics from Bruce, and extraordinarily passionate vocals from Bruce as well.

If Starblind doesn't fit whatever you define as an epic, does Paschendale? Emotionally moving, and excellent musically and lyrically.

If you're really picky, then I'll go ahead and give the nod to... Actually, I'm not sure what I would say then. I know those are my #1 and #2 Maiden songs, but I don't know anything beyond that. I would say it's a close battle between Alexander the Great, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and Hallowed Be Thy Name. Gun to my head, I'd probably say Hallowed due to its emotional power. It's also, along with Rime, the quintessential Maiden epic in my eyes. Although I love Rime, it doesn't hold the same emotional power as a song like Hallowed.

So short version: if you consider Starblind and/or Paschendale epics, my choices would be those two in that order. If you don't consider either an epic, then I would probably say Hallowed.

You should define "long." It's different for Dream Theater fans and the Ramones fans. :p

Regardless, Rime of the Ancient Mariner's my favorite Maiden song.

I would say an epic is at least 8 minutes long. Problem with that is certain songs that are deserving get left out, notably To Tame a Land and Hallowed Be Thy Name.

Well, for Maiden standards an eight-minute song is just average length. To many bands, Two Minutes To Midnight could be considered long. :p

Tough choice between Rime of The Ancient Mariner, Alexander The Great, Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Paschendale or Isle of Avalon form me. I can't decide!

Cant decide between Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Alexander the Great, Seventh Son and Sign of the Cross... Lol all of them are played in E chords in most parts
