Rush and Maiden basslines

Welsh Phantom

Ancient Mariner
Hi,

If anyone is interested I decided to record some videos of me playing bass to some Maiden and Rush songs, using my Fender Jazz Bass and Fender Steve Harris Signature Precision Bass.

Namely:  YYZ and Tom Sawyer by Rush,

and by Maiden: Prowler, Sanctuary, Remember Tomorrow, Running Free, Phantom Of The Opera, Transylvania, The Trooper and Wasted Years.

Here's a couple of links:    Rush YYZ: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4uFr634E9Rw
                                    Iron Maiden Sanctuary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvoJPgdK-n8

The rest can be found on My Channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/WelshPhantom

I hope someone finds time to take a look, any feedback is welcome.

Cheers!

Great job, man!!! Want to see more from you! Some Sabbath lines would, also, be great - War Pigs, All Moving Parts (Stand Still), Lonely Is The Word. :edmetal:

Nice straightforward, competent covers.  They seem to be lacking something to me, though.  Groove? Feel? Compare yours side by side with hyottoko1's covers, for example.  His just seem to have some extra oomph and personality thrown in.  Much better than most I've seen, at any rate, and worth watching.  Thanks for sharing!

Hyottoko1's  covers are really entertaining (his videos made me want to get this bass in the 1st place!) and he is surely an excellent player, but often his versions aren't as accurate as they could be when you really scrutinize them (Losfer Words is spot on though!).

I thought about standing up and giving it some (as he does) but chose the sit down versions in the end. I didn't want to show my face and all my various grimmaces whilst playing LOL, and didn't want to wear a mask and be a copycat. I also thought it would be easier for fellow bass players to see the notes if they wanted too. I take your point though and may compromise a bit on the next ones (I'm never still when playing live and it did feel a bit alien staying still and sat down!)

Thanks for watching ;)

Great job! You chose my two favorite bassists. :ok:

Cheers mate! ;)

It amazes me that anyone has the guts to submit videos of themselves to youtube to be scrutinized by the internet masses, so good on ya. I love watching other people interpret songs/artists I enjoy (as long as they are competently done, as yours are), so keep them coming!
