I just saw an article in an European webzine in which 155 musicians picked their favorite albums of 2006. Rob Halford picked Iron Maiden's A Matter Of Life And Death as one of his favorite releases of 2006. However, Iron Maiden lost to Slayer, Tool, and EVEN Celtic Frost. Shit, I think "A Matter Of Life And Death" was an outstanding CD... why is this new album so bashed and underrated?

Check it out yourselves: http://www.imhotep.fi/en/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2674&Itemid=76&lang=en

It was great to see the favorites of Rob Halford (Judas Priest), Bumblefoot (Guns N' Roses), Mille Petrozza (Kreator), Chuck Billy (Testament), Michael Amott (Arch Enemy), Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth), Alex Webster (Cannibal Corpse), Schmier (Destruction), Tim Ripper Owens (Iced Earth), Steve Asheim (Deicide), Mikael Stanne (Dark Tranquillity), Nergal (Behemoth), Blasphemer (Mayhem), Mike D'Antonio (Killswitch Engage), Paul Gilbert, Joe Lynn Turner, Rachel Bolan (Skid Row), Joey Tempest (Europe), Kip Winger (Winger), among others.

But am I seeing things or what? Eric Peterson from the mighty TESTAMENT mentioned MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE? WHAT THE FUCK??????

It's called opinion.  Many of those artists you mentioned are from the more extreme end of things, and from what I hear Suffocation's latest release was very well lauded, as was Celtic Frost's (in certain circles).  However, the fact that the 'Metal God' himself, Rob, named it his favourite album is worth noting.  I just hope Priest's concept album is as good and holds up live as well as AMoLaD.

Those guys take their influences from what they hear... it's not just opinion. Isn't this the guy who plays in Testament? Haven't he listened to the new albums by bands in similar styles? It's scaring that such an important guy in the Metal scene is praising a lame emo band. He should support Metal.

Look, Jannick (at least I think it was him) said that he was looking forward to touring with Trivium, as they are 'a good band'.  The private opinions of musicians shouldn't reflect on their music, and as long as it doesn't, I couldn't care who they like.  Yes, bands may take influences from their peers, but I doubt that Testament are going to be influenced by My Chemical Suckmance.  All these emo/metalcore bands are going to die down in a couple of years, anyway, after the initial wave of enthusiasm for them dies out, so just grind your teeth, support the artists you like (mainly by buying merchandise...the profits from CDs and singles hardly reaches the artists), and ignore all the shite in the music industry today.

I think it was Nicko,  but whoever it was should get his head checked  :P (I know,  it's called "opinion")

Well, they were asked a direct question about a band that was touring with them, and they're hardly going to say, 'They're shit. We wish they would spontaneously combust', especially if it's a band as emotionally sensitive as Trivium. :P

Trivium is ok... it's not My Chemical Romance. Man, there's a female singer there voting for Justin Timberlake and a guy from a Black Metal band (Turisas, is that a Black Metal band?) voting for Christina Aguilera. That's too much... they're forcing things a bit.

Look, Jannick..............
Who is this Jannick fellow? I'm aware of a man called Janick playing in a band called Iron Maiden, but I've never heard of a Jannick.... :innocent:

Hey teddiemask, don't sweat it. People are allowed to have diverse tastes in music. Just because someone likes Christina Aguilera doesn't mean that they can't like metal at the same time. Just because someone listens to Justin Timberlake doesn't mean that influence will show up in their music. I can understand your surprise, but I think you may be taking this a bit too seriously.

Ravenilky was actually speaking of two different fellows: Jan and Nick. They're Siamese twins, and known as Jannick to their friends.

Either that, or I'm just full of shit again.

Turisas are a folk metal band, and are perfectly entitled to like Christina Aguilera if they want to (if you dress yourself up in war paint and run about the forests singing about drinking and fighting the hordes of darkness, your sanity isn't entirely intact anyway ;) )

Blimey...I make one typo, and the entire population of this forum makes sure I remember it for the rest of my life... :innocent:

(Turisas, is that a Black Metal band?)

More folk metal - think Korpiklaani meets Holy Blood and your almost there.  They are very good live.

great... so now we've a viking folk metal band which leader likes Christina Aguilera. Is it that? We've a a tremendous thrash metal band which leader likes My Chemical Romance and Muse. We've the leader of The Gathering enjoying Justin Timberlake.

WOW, fantastic! That's definitely the future of Metal. That's why Iron Maiden keeps reigning.

And fuck... I don't like the new Slayer and Celtic Frost. OVERRATED albums! On the other hand, AMOLAD is UNDERRATED.
I'm not taking things too serious. I just don't like jokes like that. Do you think I'm taking things too serious? Check the link again and pay careful attention to the lists... 90% are bullshit and there are some BIG GUYS participating.

Who's joking?

Big guy, small guy, it doesn't matter.  Music is music, and people will listen to what they choose.  Don't worry about the future of metal because some people enjoy different music.  Hell, the guys who invented metal never heard it before.  There's a difference between the music you listen to and the music you write yourself.  AMOLAD is a great album.  I haven't heard the new Slayer one, and I'm not a Tool fan, but if Halford wants to be, that's his business.  I'm sure the next Priest album won't sound like Slayer does...and I'm also sure that I don't want it sounding like Maiden.  That would make things boring.
