Overall, I'm indifferent to GNR, especially nowadays, but back in the '90s, when those videos were on heavy rotation on several music TV channels, they were pretty nice, I won't lie. In other words, these addicts know - or knew - how to write ballads, unlike Maiden - but Maiden are made of different material.

Don't Cry is probably closer.It shares that same straightforward band performance vibe. November Rain is too much of a huge production piece.

It's pretty evident that Steve wrote “The Trooper” inspired by ABBA's “Super Trouper.” Those song titles are uncannily similar - to those who don't overlook hints and signs, at least. Back in the '80s, he clearly had good taste in music.
