When I heard on Death on the Road I heard the song was about the creative process and I thought originally that the song was about a man who was on a long journey out on the desert with nothing to do but sing that same song until he arrived to his destination. I thought it was how hard it is to survive under those harsh conditions without water or food but still managing to make it through that journey without giving up. That's just my idea of what the song is about, it might be a little farfetched but that's my opinion.
