Voting for the same three again. Symphony X would’ve had album of the year if those pesky Brits hadn’t dropped a fucking magnum opus. Mer de Noms is just a great record and there are too many growl haters for me to let Immolation fall.

As it currently stands, V will take the top slot tomorrow. Keep in mind you are also voting to defend high ranking albums. If people aren’t totally understanding the rules I can allow vote changing this round only.

you can now change votes and I’m gonna leave this through the weekend. I might stretch to a day and a half or 48 hour voting windows.

For me it's everything from Symphony X to Nevermore.
V has Fallen.
The Dark Ride is from my list, the songs on this album get stuck in my head all the damn time. It's a good mix and I dig the production a ton.
The Dream Sequencer is my favourite album from here, so thanks to whoever picked it. Night Prowler? It's really magical. If I need to pick favourites, I'd say One Small Step and And the Druids Turn to Stone, but I love it through and through.
The Fifth Element is new to me, I don't know what I expected PoS to sound like, whatever it was, this surprised me and made me want to research about them some more. King of Loss is where this album fully grabbed me.
Folkemon - another new one, had a great time with it on the train today. Super consistent, Polkageist is probably still the best song here.
Dead Heart in a Dead World - Nevermore is absolutely one of my favourite bands, and this comes with the price of me having knowledge of the other albums. This one is only better than the debut and The Obsidian Conspiracy. That said, it still slaps in most aspects. The Heart Collector and Believe in Nothing are must-listens. Oh and The River Dragon Has Come. Goosebump inducing solo, it's so clean. I'm also partial to We Disintegrate and Inside Four Walls.

Lots of movement toward the top with Symphony X barreling to the #2 spot and tying (!) overall vote share with Brave New World. I wasn't really expecting any major competition against Maiden, but if any competition did exist I expected it to come from Blaze, Halford, and Nightwish. With that in mind, I will be curious to see how Symphony X does now that it is no longer an underdog.

Helloween is holding its own, I feel like it's the only album on this list that exists solidly in a B tier, where everything above it is an A tier and everything below is, if not C tier, just not as popular/highly recognized compared to the others. I will be really curious if it is able to beat out anything else, although I expect it to mostly stay where it's at.

I gotta say seeing Dio ranked this low is a bit of a shock to me, even if it's not one of his more popular albums. The rest of the bottom 5 is a who's who of classics from subgenres that historically perform poorly on Maidenfans.

This will be the final round! Not a lot of movement here, Wishmaster edges out Halford but could easily be dethroned again, everything else holds its own. Still a competitive back and forth in the middle tier, with In Flames being one of the biggest movers of the game going from last seed all the way up to a solid placement in the middle, we'll see if it sustains. Get those votes in!

And we have a final power ranking for the year 2000!
  1. Iron Maiden - Brave New World =
  2. Symphony X - V: The New Mythology Suite +6
  3. Nightwish - Wishmaster =
  4. Blaze - Silicon Messiah +6

  8. Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element Part 1 -4
  9. In Flames - Clayman +7
  10. Skyclad - Folkemon -4

  13. A Perfect Circle - Mer De Noms +2
  14. Dio - Magica -3
  15. Electric Wizard - Dopethrone -3
  16. Children of Bodom - Follow the Reaper -7

It comes as no surprise that Brave New World held the #1 spot the entire time, I'm not sure that we will see a less competitive fight for #1, although V came remarkably close to stealing the top spot. In the end, it tied Brave New World for vote share in the last round and overall was the most successful of the user nominated albums, knocking out metal legends Nightwish and Halford as well as staving off any real competition from Blaze.

The biggest success story though is Clayman, which went from lowest seeded album to a respectable #9 slot. Not bad for an album that nobody nominated! It ended up beating out two albums that were nominated. Speaking of which, the biggest losers seemed to be Folkemon and Follow the Reaper. Folkemon held on a decent amount, but lost to most user nominated albums as well as a couple albums that were not nominated, namely Silicon Messiah (again, a surprise that nobody nominated it considering how high of a jump it had). The one user nominated album Folkemon did beat out was Follow the Reaper, which ended up being the lowest ranking album of them all. An impressive feat for an album that started out right in the middle.

This has been a fun first round and I am looking forward to seeing how things shake out in future years! Voting for 2001 will open tomorrow, but in the meantime you can get a head start on the albums and see power rankings updated as we go here:
