News Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

So, we have a few surprises up our sleeve with IRON MAIDEN, which I can't tell you about.

I am going to say, with mentioning how much Steve apparently loves his new solo material, it's convinced him to agree with Bruce and record another album next year.

All very exciting. Makes me speculate TMP also suffered because of Roy Z’s current state and this solo album is free of those issues.

Though listening to the interview I winced when Bruce said family relationships are the most importantly thing in life - & then 4 mins later innocently saying he regrets nothing at all about his past and wouldn’t change a thing in his life … I guess that’s all he would say on a radio interview of course, it’s not confession, but blimey.

I can not listen to the interview at the moment. In what context is he talking about "family relationships"?
Thank you for you help!

Bruce started with the hints campaign. All is exciting.

A few surprises that will make the fans excited - I think this confirms a new album is being recorded, it should be certain now (the ''can't tell you about'' bit too). They like to work in secret, but let's not forget that Steve openly said that they will record a new album in 2018. It should count as a ''surprise'' now.
Bruce said ''a few'' -> what, live shows next year? What theme/tour (3rd leg, Part 2 for one year)? Especially if it is announced soon. Just a way of saying? Naah. I guess they could organize a few big dates for next year, but when with Bruce's tour and recording.

Overhyping from Bruce? Well, the possibilities aren't that many, right. The upcoming announced live concert video? It shouldn't be it.

I think Bruce's new solo material likely inspired Steve, and perhaps he took one of his solo songs again. He said the new solo album fits easily with Maiden because everybody in the band loves it - how to interpret that?

It's funny that he said the current tour theme is up until kind of NPFTD.
We're always looking at ways of improving the storytelling, improving the drama, whether it's through the costumes or whether it's through the screens now.

Nowhere specifically, it wasn't even a hint at that. New album likey is the biggest takeaway from that interview.
If there was shows next year I can see it being similar to Power Trip, festival promoters throwing money at them to do a few shows, likely between Bruce tour dates or shortly after the studio sessions. won't be anything extensive though.

You mean a especiffic show in a festival? I dont think they do that

If Steve was really in love with Bruce's new songs, I just hope he'll update his own songwriting a bit and won't go down the slow-intro/outro-done-to-death route again. Make something a little out of the box.

The intro could be more synthy, sci-fi, spacey, echoey - something that actually creates a specific mood. Abandon the live recording approach with little or no reverb. Make the songs breathe. Make them spacious and polished. Hell, at this point I personally would even prefer something a bit overproduced. (I remember some people saying Seventh Son was overproduced.)

Also, take your time and don't rush things in the studio. Polish and refine. Hell on Earth would have been better with some more chorus and without those tempo fluctuations.

Steve, you were once a perfectionist. Be one more last time in the studio, but with a proper producer at the helm.
Please.

It's like flogging a dead horse at this point, we don't need another 3 or 4 "epics" following this exact same tired blueprint.

1 long song max is all that's needed, make the others 4 to 7 mins with a total run time under 50 mins without the bloat.

Kevin Shirley is actually a good producer, he is just too much of a yes man to steve. I actually wish he would step back and let him work independently, you will have a totally different sounding album

Interview with Nicko:

Interesting that he did heroin, never thought any of Maiden went that far. Perhaps in his pre-Maiden days?

He was however a heavy drinker till about 2015.

And smoked skunk till 1986.

And was still doing coke till around 2008.

... plus the BBQ-heavy diet? In some the later tours he was positively obese. I'm not taking the piss, and it may have all been bad luck at the end of the day health-wise. But he was the one member who didn't seem to be physically in the mindset of keeping his career going for as long as possible. The rest seem to be in very good shape for their age.

Some of the earliest hyping from Bruce once the demos were done was that Steve was over the moon about Bruce's new solo album. It was months later that Steve started voicing his reluctance to record a new album. Doesn't mean Steve watching Bruce getting geared up for an exciting new solo album didn't bring out his old competitive spirit, though. In fact, I hope that's the case. I'd love to see Steve try with Maiden to outdo Bruce solo.

I think everyone has since heard the full album in it's completed form, and all seem very positive towards it. This seemed to have happened recently.

Steve: We heard that you have 16 recorded songs. Is that true?
Bruce: Yeah, and it's my best stuff ever.
Steve: Really?
Bruce: Yeahh
Steve: You bastard…
Bruce: I'm going to play it for you…Ready?
Steve and the rest: We're ready play that sh*t.
The last song ends and Steve says: Can we use that one and that one and that one too?
Bruce: mmm all right
Steve: I'm sure that If I arrange them a little bit with a slow intro and outro here and there and some fast rhythm in the middle…
