How Live are Maidens Live releases ?

What I mean by this is how much if any studio work ie overdubs ,reworks etc are done to Maidens Live albums/DVDs as is quite often the case with so called Live albums,or are the tracks left pretty much untouched
Examples of both would be Deep Purple - Made In Japan which had no real studio work added ie what you hear was what they played ,and Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous which was a patchwork quilt of a live album cut together from many performances and rehashed in the studio.

well, they are enough live (especially RIR)

Actually, that has quite a few dubs on it.  Steve didn't think the crowd was loud enough singing 'Fear of the Dark' during the first chorus, so he overdubbed Bruce singing along with them...he would never normally do that.

Although, overall, I don't think there are many studio alterations with Maiden's live releases.

whaw!! how the hell do you know that ? anyway, very interesting information

well when I was a young boy I remember other hammerheads (but not so Maiden fans) calling Live After Death a studio album....from the other hand, still now, I can't very easily say where there are overdubs or not

People on this board take their time to reply. Posts like this are generally very annoying.

Sorry didnt mean to cause any offence ;)
Its just these things interest me a great deal and I have to admit that a lot of the time i actually prefer a good quality bootleg to an official live release due to correct running order and real show feel! and as far as im concerned bands with the talent of  Maiden who are normally excellent live could surely record a good few shows of any tour  and release the best whole show(RIR is perhaps the best example of this to date) rather than a cut and paste job of several shows with overdubs etc hence the question do they do a lot of studio work on the live stuff id be very surprised if they do?

There is a good deal of crowd noise on Live After Death that was generated after the fact, with their volume suddenly increasing and decreasing for no apparent reason. Maiden dealt with this pretty well and it's not too obvious, but their (at the time) labelmates playing at the same arena, W.A.S.P., could not match that subtlety on their release 'Live...In The Raw' where the crowd noise is so obviously piped-in, repeats itself and suddenly vanishes entirely during the quiet songs.

If ever there was an album that sounded so overdubbed, it could almost be a studio release - then this would be a contender. I agree about the crowd noise on this live album, it does sound a little too obvious.

I recall reading one or two press interviews where Bruce admitted that Live After Death had to be retouched. I'm talking about interviews he did at the time of the LP release.

*mode joke on *
Dave probably had to redo all H's guitar parts as usual -_-

On the subject of the question, I think the only live album that was really substantially touched on was Live After Death as Bruce admitted. I don't know about the others, and Death on the Road sounds pretty live to me.

Sneaky, that looks suspiciously like an increase post-count post.  :P

This must be the greatest Murray Statement I've ever read :ok: :D.  Get'em David!

Considering it's about the only Murray statement, that's not exactly saying anything. :innocent:

Correct my friend.

Well anyway, back on topic... On RiR, you can hear that some guitarparts are mixed down, (one of Jannick's solo's... The solo fades out, but you can see he's still playing a solo on the DVD).

The most things on the live releases are genuine, (what I think, that is)  but some changes on one or two records are to be counted with.
