Look how @Shmoolikipod voted: both songs had 3-3 votes. Then Cat Milk entered the chat and gave no vote to either song but in his comment said that he's voting for Nightwish. Ask him. Or am I imagining things?
Oh yes, you are correct!

Round 11 Winners:

1. Opeth - Blackwater Park (5 Points)
2. Crimson Glory - Dragon Lady/Warlock - Three Minute Warning (4 Points) [Tie]
3. Immortal - One By One/Cradle Of Filth - Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids (4 Points) [Tie]
4. Therion - Son Of The Staves Of Time/Nightwish - Escapist (4 Points) [Tie]

Leprous Vs. Scorpions may be the weirdest matchup in the tournament. Our friend @Cat Milk Supreme nominated 11 songs instead of 10 but since 3 songs were nominated twice, so to keep things even, I decided to keep that one extra song in the last moment.

Ballad of William Kidd should win this whole game
Idk, but Ballad Of William Kidd has super awesome melodies. As a Maiden fan, I love them. The vocal delivery fits. Winds Of Time is quite epic (that instrumental section), strong battle.

The first matchup is also solid. En Force is Maiden-esque Queensryche with mix of Helloween and Priest (impactful acoustic outro), while I nominated Tailgunner's Barren Lands And Seas Of Red because it sounds pure classic metal (also Maiden vibe) with great vocals and instrumental section. Both songs have great verses and vocal lines.

Btw, Metal Church's Beyond The Black main riff is pure heavy gold.

Armored Saint's Aftermath has an interesting structure, good stuff.

Why do you not vote?

0 Queensryche - En Force

1 Running Wild - Ballad Of William Kidd +1

Queensrÿche's En Force sounds somewhat Seventh Son-ish to me, especially in terms of the guitar-playing style, although the album was released four years earlier. Maybe even somewhere in the realm of King Diamond. It also contains some very Halford-like screams. Tailgunner's song is a fun cruising beast. Nicely produced, too, and sprinkled with those nice guitar melodies. In this matchup, I'd prefer to vote for both songs because I like them both. But this time I'll go with Tailgunner.

In the second matchup, for my taste, I found both songs boring. Sorry. The vocalists sound like they're singing while eating something disgusting and then vomiting it back up, haha. I guess I'll vote for Opeth because their song is better produced and more varied.

Running Wild's Ballad of William Kidd is a little monotonous, although it's overall filled with some very nice melodies. Wings of Steel's Winds of Time was nothing special to me. Too run-of-the-mill. In the context of these two songs, Running Wild's was much more pleasant. I didn't like the production on Wings of Steel, and the vocalist sounded a little thin in places. Although the instrumental section was definitely nice.
Also, I think there's a non-zero possibility that Steve was inspired by the melodies on Running Wild's song when he wrote the intro and outro to The Clansman. Those acoustic or semi-acoustic parts do sound at least somewhat in the same vein.
According to Wikipedia, The Rivalry was released on February 9, 1998, while Iron Maiden's Virtual XI recording sessions took place from 1997 to February 1998, with the album subsequently released in March 1998.
The chance seems pretty slim, though. How would Steve have gotten his hands on a freshly released Running Wild album while he was busy working on his own creation? Also, the studio was in Barnyard - I doubt there were many record shops around there even back then, ha.

Scorpions' Coast to Coast is simply great. Harmonies and dual-guitar melodies rule forever and ever. Leprous' song wasn't bad either; I liked it.

In Metal Church's Beyond the Black, I can hear something very similar to Slayer's Expendable Youth main rhythmic figure (starting at 1:09), but Metal Church's song was released in 1984, so this time Slayer were the ones who got inspired by them. Armored Saint's song was nice, but it didn't grow into a fully complete, self-sufficient/fleshed-out song for me, and its ending felt too abrupt. More like several ideas stitched together. I'm voting for Metal Church because it feels much more cohesive and has that great riff/rhythm.

P.S. Personally, I'd be much happier if this whole game were won by Running Wild's Ballad of William Kidd, rather than some intellectual borefest that Opeth is to me.

Soz, I totally forgot the facts and just guessed what happened. Maybe I like Ahab then? Interesting
You said you would’ve tied the matchup after Vaenyr’s vote, and Vaenyr was gonna vote for Summoning, so that means that you’re a True Funeral Doom Defender. Please enjoy your lovely gift basket of Tyranny, Evoken, and Thergothon.

Siddharth better do a sequel cuz I’ll only nominate funeral doom for that one. :ninja:

Where are all the votes folks?

0 Queensryche - En Force
2 Tailgunner - Barren Lands And Seas Of Red +1

2 Opeth - Bleak 1

Time to make myself unpopular again. En Force is a great song. I love the instrumental. The vocal melodies are great for the most part as well. But I absolutely cannot stand Geoff's voice on this one. I have the same issues with him that I have with Halford's higher range, it's so goddamn annoying to listen to. Way to ruin a song that could've easily been a 9/10.
The Tailgunner song is fantastic. Love the vocalist. The production is pretty great, though I'm not a fan of the drum sound. Very easy decision.

Bleak is a goddamn masterpiece and my favourite song on BWP. Phrygian Dominant is always a good time. But beyond that, the sheer variety in riffs, atmospheres, vibes and tonalities always blows me away.
The Sumac one isn't doing anything for me unfortunately.

As I mentioned in a previous round, the Ballad Of William Kidd is my favourite Running Wild song. It's an easy 10/10 and one of the songs I almost ended up nominating myself. It's pure power pirate metal perfection.
Winds Of Time has a nice guitar tone and some cool riffs, an annoying drum sound (what's up with all those modern heavy metal bands completely fucking up the drums?) and truly obnoxious vocals. Sounds like someone who goes for the Rhapsody/Dragonforce style, while at the same time spending large parts of the song in a register that seems to be causing him a ton of trouble. Another easy matchup. Third one in a row really.

That's not the orchestra version of Rock You Like A Hurricane, the best Scorpions song of all time! I was waiting for the vocals to kick in, only to realize this is an instrumental lol. Not a bad song, but barely metal. Good background listening but not something I'd go out of my way to put on again.
Leprous is one of those bands where I truly appreciate their instrumental work but can't listen to them in large doses. Illuminate for example is a banger. Echo is much more my style than the Scorpions tune, kind of a mean matchup to be honest lol. The middle section was obnoxiously long, but the section that follows is awesome.

Just like the previous Metal Church song, this one doesn't do it for me. There are some cool parts throughout, but overall not my thing.
Aftermath starts out a bit rough, but turns into a pretty strong tune. Love the acoustic section, love the vocals. Another easy win. I think this round was the first one where every single matchup had a very clear winner for me.

3 Tailgunner - Barren Lands And Seas Of Red +1
0 Queensryche - En Force

3 Opeth - Bleak +1

0 Sumac - Image Of Control (II)

3 Running Wild - Ballad Of William Kidd +1
0 Wings Of Steel - Winds Of Time

2 Leprous - Echo +1
1 Scorpions - Coast To Coast

2 Armored Saint - Aftermath +1
1 Metal Church - Beyond The Black

For once I have all the same votes as @Vaenyr and for all the same reasons (though my opinions on Running Wild are not as strong)!

Fuck Geoff Tate (but also I'm really over Tailgunner's dramatic BS), Opeth slays all competition, Leprous is never my favorite but superior to a Scorps instrumental, and Armored Saint slays all competition.
