Alter Bridge / Tremonti

Listening to Walk The Sky right now. Still halfway to go, but I have to say my apprehension about the album has been allayed.

Edit: After hearing the whole album, the overwhelming feeling is beyond relief. Alter Bridge are back! :yey: :yey::yey:
Alter Bridge live T-32 days!

Edit 2: Forever Falling - OMG, this song will be played on repeat for months to come.

I'm. Listening to 'Native Son' on my Spotify Release Radar playlist. It's pretty good and I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of it later today.

@Ariana when can we expect a full formatted album review from you? I want to know how solid and amazing all the songs are.

I will post a review most likely, but I need to listen a few more times.

Btw, the bridge to Native Son has a reference to a Maiden song.

Me waiting for @Ariana to post her formatted review of 'Walk the Sky'.

Yes yes, but how many points out of ten? I've been conditioned to only understand album reviews if they are formatted with multiple significant digits.

Their album popped up on my Deezer when it came out couple of weeks ago and I gave it a spin. Surprised to say, I love it!
Then I got to wonder didn't they sound a bit different when I saw them opening for Maiden.
Then it took me some more time to realize it was Tremonti, not them.

This being said, and no disrespect, I though how Alter Bridge would be a perfect Maiden opening band. A weeks later, they are. Have fun you who're going to Weert and Gothenburg. AB isn't a band for whom I'd travel to see them, but would love to see them somewhere on the festival or opening for Maiden.

So per the advice of some folks in another thread in a galaxy far far away (but totes on this forum) I have decided to give Alter Bridge a spin. I listened to a few of their tracks last night and, I'm sorry to say, they are super duper not my cup of tea. They are absolutely not bad, just nothing that I enjoyed listening to. I listened to a track called BlackBird and another song that was not BlackBird. I can't remember the name. I'm willing to listen to more but so far they don't arouse any special feelings in me. I am sorry.

Top 20 guitar solos of the 2010's (this is a link)
Mark Tremonti scoring first and second place. Well deserved. The guy is a beast live. Seeing him play the solos to Cry and Achilles and Addicted to Pain live has been a highlight of the last show I saw. Pure brilliance!
Meanwhile, Adrian Smith at number 14.

Last night I saw Alter Bridge at the O2 Arena in London on the final night of their European tour with support from Shinedown and The Raven Age. Sevendust were also supposed to be on the bill but they had to pull out of the UK tour because one of them got ill, although someone else from the band did join Alter Bridge for a song late in the set.

Despite The Raven Age being the single greatest band in the world ever - maybe in history, but definitely ever - I managed to miss their set as I was sitting outside the main arena having a beer. I suppose that their set in Montreal was so good that anything else they do just won't match it and I don't want to be disappointed. Shinedown were mildly entertaining but the singer wastes too much time between songs talking to the crowd. After the second song of the set he took about three minutes to goad the standing section into jumping by asking them to make a gap down the middle for him to walk to the sound desk from where he addressed the entire arena. This was totally pointless as everyone could hear him just as well as when he stood on the stage. They seemed to be a bit more irritating than when they opened for Iron Maiden in 2017 (I saw them four times on that tour), perhaps because they felt more at home with Alter Bridge's fans than Iron Maiden's. To be fair to them, they do seem to have a sizeable overlap with Alter Bridge's fanbase and a significant proportion of people knew some of their songs so they managed to generate an atmosphere and were a decent warm up for the main act.

Having seen Alter Bridge once previously at one of the Royal Albert Hall shows with an orchestra I was looking forward to this show a lot as I couldn't actually see anything from my position standing at the back for the Royal Albert Hall show. For this show I had a seat and was able to see everything. I enjoyed their show a lot and the new songs work well live. The highlights for me were the duo of 'Cry of Achilles' and 'Waters Rising' but I was surprised that not many people around me stood up for those songs. Sad! I was a bit disappointed that there was nothing from 'The Last Hero' in the London setlist (click here) as it was my introduction to the band, but in Cardiff and Birmingham (the two previous shows) they played 'Crows on a Wire' (a great song) but last night they played some song called 'White Knuckles' that I wasn't familiar with.     Anyway, the encore of 'Godspeed' and 'Addicted to Pain' was good and they finished just in time for me to dash out to the tube station and get across central London in 38 minutes to get the train home.

I'm looking forward to seeing them supporting Iron Maiden in Gothenburg with some Maidenfans in June next summer. Possibly at Download festival too.
