A Question About the Dance of Death Tour

Last night I saw Death on the Road for the first time. What a show! Me and my brother both had a great time. The only thing that bothered me is (you don't say...) the setlist.

Why did they play only 5 songs from the album? 5 songs, goddammit! And other 11 songs which we all can recite through not only sleep but through deep hybernation also!

I really think that Montsegur, Face in the Sand and New Frontier well deserve a live run. What do you say?

I'm frustrated. I would like to ask two more questions though:
A) Why did Maiden did not play more DoD songs?
B) Is there a good bootleg of a DoD Tour concert which includes more album tracks?

They played 6, not 5. For Maiden, that's not that bad. Expect something like this might happen again on the next tour.

No clue, but I don't mind. They played my three favourite ones, each by a different guitar player: Rainmaker, Paschendaele and the title track. For the rest I find that the albums contains many weaker moments.

When it comes to older tracks it wasn't Maiden's most inventive set, but hey every tour has its critisizers.

No, together with Wildest Dreams, these I find the weaker songs. The following is just my personal opinion and I realize some people really like those tracks, esp. Montsegur and FinS.

Montsegur sounds too happy for the lyrics, Face in the Sand has a beautiful atmospheric intro, but then it turns into a plodding repetitive piece. And New Frontier has a crappy chorus, almost as crap as Wildest Dreams. In fact, this song sounds like a rip off from Wildest Dreams. On top of that: I strongly disagree with the lyrics.

I'm afraid Maiden are the only ones who really know this.

No. Also not a bad bootleg.

Thanks, Forostar, that was a thorough answer :)

A few remarks: First of all you are right, they did play 6 songs; I miscounted. Secondly, I ment to write Gates of Tomorrow and instead typed New Frontier. My bad. :innocent:

I agree with you for most of what you said about New Frontier and Montsegur, however, I do think that Montsegur's music simply kicks ass, big time! I know it doesn't go well with the lyrics but the song was simply made to be played live, the rythm, the speed, the energies - That's how I feel anyway.

About FitS, I feel the song has a hard edge to it. Plus I really like how Bruce sings on this one and Nicko's drumming - simply amazing!

I would like to add something in favor of this show - I still have not seen/heard any show from tours after DotR (TED Tour, AMoLaD Tour, AMotB Tour and SBiT), but I must say that Bruce simply managed to outshine himself (I hope I said it correctly). He sings like an angel! Nailed all the notes and gave a hell of a performance, both vocals-wise and visually. Magnificent! Of course, the boys also shined, especially the guitarists. Really top-notch performances.

I forgot to add that I think Gates of Tomorrow is a lovely song, very upbeat and certainly fit for a Maiden live show. Imagine H and 'Arry singing the vocal harmonies along with Brucie in the verses - that's simply unheard of. And the bridge before the chorus and the chorus itself - very energetic!

I'm always doing that: the keys are right next to each other.  ;)

Hahaha
Well the songs are very in connected to each other in some obscure way within my subconcious. Probably because they are subsequent (is that how you say it?) and because both are filler.

New Frontier is a very good song that deserves more credit. Much better than Wildest Dreams. I've always thought New Frontier had the right energy and riffs to be the album opener, and Maiden fucked up by not doing that.

Also, the DoD tour did have some setlist changes, by Maiden standards. At that time both "Can I Play With Madness" and "Lord Of The Flies" hadn't been played in years.

^ agreed.

Has very strong riffage, kickass bridge and a great solo. Regarding lyrics, i don't agree and i don't disagree with them. Maybe i'll write about that in commentary section, if i find some time to sum it all up.
