Yeah, The Iron Maiden Commentary website is fantastic, even though it has not been updated since 2010. On topic, I guess that no one could have ever foreseen in 1999 that almost 20 years on, they would be still as big, if not bigger, that in the 80s.

Was Somewhere Back in Time their best tour ever?

Aesthetics and set list wise, their best tours were World Slavery Tour (UK leg), Somewhere On Tour (Sea Of Madness included) and Seventh Tour Of A Seventh Tour (Maiden England).

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

If they were due to the studio this January, I guess that we would have heard it by now...so most probably no new album in 2018, which is kind of disheartening.

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

That's interesting, because I believe that Starblind is their best post 1988 song.

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

I believe that progressive in 1986 meant what progressive means since day one: longer, more intricate songs, with lots of themes, odd time signatures, sudden shifts in tempo, etc. From this perspective, there were songs in the 80s a lot more progressive than some of the epics of the reunion era.

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

I agree. I was thinking of AMOLAD in the context of their post 2000 efforts. But that is true, on the 80s records there are some truly progressive songs, with a plethora of themes that come and go during a lot less time span that on post 2000s longer stuff.

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

I have to strongly disagree with your opinion, as if they reached a progressive pinnacle, it must have been A Matter Of Life And Death.

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

I really didn't pay attention to the lyrics, it's that superb harmonized melody that stuns me every time I listen to this song.

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

Best of reunion albums: Best opener: If Eternity Should Fail (The Book of Souls). The Wicker Man is a fantastic song, but its main riff is way too strikingly similar to Priest's "Running Wild". Most consistent album: A Matter Of Life And Death (by a long shot) Best song: Starblind (The Final...

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

LOL! I love the Age Of Innocence, gorgeous and haunting intro, brutal main riff and it has one of Maiden's most mind blowing harmonized melodies of all time! It's so violently beautiful than it almost hurts while listening...absolutely to die for!

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

Quoted for the truth. FTGGOG is Steve's best epic since SOTC and it certainly blows out of the water both WTWWB and TRATB. The melodies in the chorus are really majestic and orchestral and the bridge is to die for. In my opinion, the main problem with Steve's songwriting nowadays is that he...

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

By "Maiden by the numbers" formula I had in mind songs that are not stand outs or are simply uninspired, not shorter tracks. I know that this time they managed to come up with more songs under the 6 minutes mark, but quality wise, could Speed Of Light/When The River Runs Deep/Death Or...

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

In my view, with a handful of exceptions (If Eternity Should Fail, The Great Unknown, The Book Of Souls and Empire Of The Clouds), the album is somehow "Maiden by the numbers". It does not come remotely close to the overall quality of neither Brave New World, nor A Matter Of Life And Death, the...

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

Unfortunately, as incredible as it might seem, it appears that they DID enjoy the improvised, rushed and underdeveloped style of writing of The Book Of Souls...

Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

Bear in mind that apart from kicking off in late May, they usually gather with at least one month ahead of every tour to start rehearsing the songs. That basically leaves 3 month and a half for writing/recording/keeping an eye on production/artwork/packaging (early January through mid April)...

Legacy of the Beast 2018 Tour

I know. I am a bit underwhelmed by the press release content anyway, moreover that it seems that we may very well rule out a new album being shipped next year.

Legacy of the Beast 2018 Tour

That would be incredible dull, given that they played those songs to death starting with the Somewhere Back In Time Tour. If they won't redeem themselves by reviving long forgotten gems from the 80s like Killers, 22 Acacia Avenue, Flight of Icarus, Die With Your Boots On, Still Life, To Tame A...

    Final Frontier: one year later

Hadn't been for those comments, I would have stated that your view over The Final Frontier was pretty much the closest spot on I have came across on any board in connection thereof. In any event, When The Wild Wind Blows not only doesn't matches/surpasses the other soft/hard multi section epics...

    The 2011 Tour Thread! (SPOILERS)

Hopefully, they won't! Although both went really well live, I believe that there are better epic songs that could make a future set list instead of those two.  After all, we are not talking about a Rime Of The Ancient Mariner/Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son combo.
