Caught two shows this week, both in Stoke. Gigs in Stoke are like buses, you wait around for years for them to come around, and then two come in the same week. First was Holding Absence at the Sugar Mill on Monday night. Supported by Void of Vision, who I thought were absolutely incredible...

    The Future Past tour 2023

Let's play devil's advocate for a second, and assume that's legit. I do not want to hear Bruce butcher Aces High on another tour, in fact I don't want it anywhere near another setlist for the duration of the band's remaining lifespan.

Set list stats (reunion era - 1999 to 2022)

I think it partly has to do with the band still recovering from the death of metal in the 90s, and they were still rebuilding their popularity after Bruce and Adrian rejoined. I think it was the mammoth success of Somewhere Back in Time tour that propelled them to do longer tours with more shows.

Always loved Jeff Beck's solo in this song. His guitar work on Amused to Death is one of the reasons why it's such a sublime album. What a huge loss his death is.

    DIO

Great documentary. You can tell how much Wendy loved Dio, but she does give off Sharon Osbourne vibes at some points.

    Black Sabbath

Headless Cross is probably in my top five Sabbath albums. Tony Martin is insanely underrated, glad his era is finally getting some recognition.

My final gig of 2022 was last night, courtesy of Volbeat. I have no other words but it was absolutely incredible. Michael Polson had an awful cold, and was coughing the whole night, but he still put on one of the best vocal performances I've heard this year. The rest of the band were on fire...

    The Future Past tour 2023

Just watch them not play ATG, and play Rime of the Ancient Mariner instead, like they did on the original tour. I wouldn't even be mad, honestly.

Ticketmaster had a Black Friday sale and had 2 for 1 tickets for Alter Bridge's tour, so I nabbed two for Birmingham on the 11th December, and taking TheSeventhMariner Sr as he's a big fan of Alter Bridge. Couldn't turn down a £25 ticket really.

Saw Nightwish in Birmingham on Tuesday night, and what an absolutely incredible gig. I always forget how much I love this band until I see them live. Floor is an absolute powerhouse, to go from having lifesaving surgery, to being on stage belting out notes like she does in the matter of weeks is...

    Blaze Bayley

Every time he's come to Stoke, I've never been able to make it. So, I'm gonna have to move heaven and earth to make sure I'm there. Not only because I like to support Blaze whenever I can, but we don't get any good acts that often in Stoke, so I best make the most of it.

    Judas Priest

I don't think Hell exists anymore, apparently Kev sold his guitars, and the lead singer apparently got into a 'domestic situation' that meant he couldn't record or tour, and Andy being in Priest was a final nail in the coffin. Such a shame really, absolutely amazing band who I would have loved...
