European Politics

We're alien mutant demons from outer space who have come to earth, laid claim to your planet and infected your culture using heavy metal as our medium. We're worldwide beacons of excellent taste and good manners with thousands decapitated and despoiled bodies in our merciless wake. Uh, yeah. That's the long and short of it.

Should we be concerned that you're talking to yourself? If the answer is no, please review the forum rules as this would fall under spamming which is a no no.

Can we keep this thread to European Politics, please? There's a couple of sillier threads for sillier stuff.

There's a reason I didn't reply to that. How about that Ukraine doing favors for the white house? There, back on topic
What about the consequences and the policies of Russia,US, EU on Syria invasion by Turkey?. What is happening?.

So this year's Nobel Prize for literature went to a pretentious postmodernist who appropriated Serbian politics and was best buddies with Milošević, and... where's the outcry?

I read a very critical piece in The Guardian the other day but would have expected a stronger reaction from others.

Sweden is on the verge of becoming a far right country. You're next, Holland.

Swedish Nazis, marching ashore
Forged in Valhalla by the hammer of Thor
Out from Asgaard, a viking ship sails
Never to turn back again!

Shit news with capital S. How on earth did you end up reading the Torygraph though?

The trend is rather worrying: in Spain the far right party Vox got 15% of the vote in the November elections (5% more than in the April 2019 elections) and now has 52 seats (28 more than in April) out of a total of 350 in parliament.

It is more complex...or simple. Polarize is the word. Extremism.
The core, the probkem is the EU. The EU is not base on democratic rules. Thats why Poland sees the panorama and stay firm. That' why Sweden is suffering its own lost of FREEDOM!!!!. No free speech, no freedom at all. Its so clear what is happening. Open your eyes please. Left is just the same extremist shit. We need balance or just hear monaural, and that sucks.

Since Brexit, people rather stay in the EU rather than diving into chaos. The leave EU populist parties are getting weaker. This is one good thing coming out of Brexit.

Black Wizard, and perhaps also Cain, I fear you might have been somewhat selective in reporting election results here. Especially this year, there were several victories for progressive / left wing / social democrats in Europe. Some examples:
2019 Moldovan parliamentary election
2019 Estonian parliamentary election
2019 Slovak presidential election
2019 Finnish parliamentary election
2019 North Macedonian presidential election
November 2019 Spanish general election
2019 Danish general election
2019 Portuguese legislative election
2019 Gibraltar general election

On top of that, you may have missed something:

On election day in three European capitals at the end of May, voters swept an insurgent party to the top of the polls for the new European parliament. But, contrary to widespread media speculation in the run-up to the poll, it was not the far-right populists who triumphed at the ballot box in Brussels, Berlin and Dublin. Instead, in all these cities Green parties won the highest number of votes, spearheading a continent-wide surge that looks likely to transform their political role within Europe. [etc.]
