Iron Maiden studio album 17 rumours and speculations

It was 9 years ago today that The Final Frontier was released. One new album in a decade and multiple 3-year tours playing only old songs? Sounds like Maiden has gone full nostalgia/cabaret act to me!

I think that is an unfair and biased assessment of their work since 2010. For The Final Frontier we had 98 shows in 2010-2011 with a set list really heavy on new post-reunion material, followed then by 100 shows looking back for the Maiden England in 2012-2014, a year off as a result of cancer, then a new album and 117 shows in 2016-2017 heavy on new material leading to the 82 shows of the Legacy of the Beast covering different eras (80s, 90s and 00s) in 2018-2019.

If anything, the number of shows played promoting new material exceeds the number of those playing older stuff. :p

Next year we will have a new album and we can look back at three studio albums in 10 years. Not too bad in this day and age.
Agreed, album sales for all artists are not like they used to be. Hard to believe now some artists used to put out 2 albums a year in the 70's and once a year in the 80's...

With Maiden focused (least at the moment) more on growing / merchandising its brand than making a new album, I wonder if they'll get into the marijuana biz? Nowadays, lots of musicians / celebs are, with their own branded strains... and let's face it, the leap from celeb-branded beer to celeb-branded weed is minimal. IM loves attaching their brands / logo to all kinds of products & properties... so why not?

Weed is illegal in the UK and everywhere else in Europe. Those few territories in North America where it's legal are not worth the effort commercially for a British band.

Also: In the ungodly name of corporate synergy, the Mayan-themed "Book of Souls" album / tour should've been sponsored by Amazon. It was such a ridiculously perfect fit! Anyhoo, back to your regularly scheduled program...

The Amazon has nothing to do with the Mayans. The Mayans lived in Yucatán, the Amazon is in Brazil. The closest point between the two territories is still at a distance of about 4000 km as the crow flies, and there was no significant cultural interaction between them at any point. London and Egypt are closer to each other, both geographically and culturally.

Few territories??? 33 out of 50 states (including California, the biggest state via population) now has legal marijuana (medical or otherwise). That's already most of the country, and more states are following. BTW, the legal marijuana industry in the US alone is projected to hit $21.6 billion by 2021. (And I'm overlooking Canada, where it's now legal too... but hey, everyone overlooks Canada. Eh?)

There ARE reasons why IM would be "highly" unlikely to stick their logo on an MJ bag, but a lack of $$ potential prob ain't one of 'em. Now that weed is (mostly) legal in the US, there's kinda goldrush going on... lots of money being made. Actors, singers, rappers, ex-athletes... celeb-branded MJ is becoming more & more commonplace. Colorado has even legalized mushrooms. Everything is weird now.

In the USA, it's still federally illegal. Many banks won't touch the money from recreational pot sales. In Canada, the industry is regulated pretty aggressively and none of the branding Iron Maiden is famous for is allowed. If they can't put Eddie on it (and in Canada, they can't), why would they sell it?

Not to get too "in the weeds" (ha! such wit!), but there's a state / federal legal division in the US that can get kinda confusing. On a federal level, first under Pres. Obama & continuing with Trump, marijuana federal statutes are no longer being enforced as before. (The thought was that minorities were being disproportionately targeted, and b/c -- quite frankly -- US public opinion has changed.) This has opened the door for the individual states to legalize marijuana -- and most of 'em have. But because these federal laws weren't legally redacted, the feds could still technically raid MJ dispensaries in California, etc. It's also created headaches in the payments industry, with many dispensaries being cash-only.

And it's STILL a multi-billion $$ industry that currently employs directly (US industry only) 250,000 people... and growing rapidly. Salary, benefits, contractual agreements -- all the things you'd find in a "normal" job, and various celebs (Martha Stewart, Master P, Mike Tyson, Melissa Etheridge, Jimmy Buffet, Gwyneth Paltrow, Willie Nelson, Snoopp, Whoopi Goldberg, Joe Montana, Gene Simmons, yada yada) are doing MJ endorsement deals.

And I assure you, they're ALL doing this with the expectation of getting paid.

BTW, there are lots of strange laws (federal & state) in the US that are "technically" still on the books, but are never enforced. (Lots of websites are dedicated to 'em -- one Georgia county law made it illegal to eat fried chicken with a fork(?).) A new MJ law from the feds would be ideal, but at this stage, it seems extraordinary unlikely that the MJ genie can go back in the bottle. It's gotten too big.

It's also unlikely that the feds will pass a new law... heck, the US law governing credit card disputes was passed WAAAAAAY back in 1974 -- and we STILL haven't updated it, even though it's creating huge probs in ecommerce / online sales now (hence people filing charge backs on legit purchases).

I dunno if y'all have noticed this yet, but our US politicians are... uh... not totally great.

We have a USA politics thread if you want to talk about US policy related to marijuana (or anything else).

Let’s go back to talking about the hypothetical 17th Maiden album here.

My predication based on nothing but hunches and no insider information: The new album announcement will be in March with release 5/29/20. It is a Friday and is 20 years to the day from release of Brave New World. The album will have a running time that is under an hour, have song lengths similar to that of the 80s albums and will not be titled Day of the Dead. The subsequent tour will celebrate not only the new album but 20 years of reunited Maiden and will be the last tour to go heavy on the reunion material with five from the new album, five from the other reunion albums plus five classic standards and one deeper cut. The tour will start with European festivals around the album release and a European or maybe just a UK tour. Ed Force One dates will follow thereafter throughout 2020 and into 2021 with perhaps a summer 2021 North American tour to conclude the album cycle.

Can you post the track listing and the album title that –if you know that it's not Day of the dead– you saw in your visions? Thanks in advance

It makes sense, but I still believe we'll have the announcement by the end of the year and maybe even the first single will be released, and then in March we'll have the album.
