VCD copying query

Ok, so I'm copying some VCDs using Nero 5.5 - both "originals" play fine in Windows Media Player, as does one of the copies. The second copy refuses to play, and WMP gives an error message saying the file format isn't supported - it plays ok using WinDVD though. I did nothing different for the second copy than with the first, so I'm baffled....

Anyone?
 
When you copied the cd did you do it in RAW format? i.e. ignore errors, write uncorrected?

Sometimes Nero tries to 'correct an error' which is actually part of the actual cd track ( ie it thinks correct data is an error)
 
Think it was set up on auto correct - I'll check it and re-try. Cheers mate.

Are you exclusively here now BTW? The Maiden BB seems to have died on it's arse....

I ususally copy all the files to my harddisk and burn a new compilation to prevent errors like that... Only takes a bit longer
 
Phil - where is the option in Nero?

I'm in the "new compilation" options, and there's a thing about "force raw reading" for data mode 1 & 2 - is that it?

It's on auto ignore for audio, but don't know about data.
 
CD - Copy dialog box
Read Options Tab
Ignore Illegal TOC - tick

Unreadable data - continue copying

Data Mode - force raw reading
on errors - write uncorrected

Read with sub channel data - tick

Ignore read errors - tick
Use Jitter correction - dont tick

Write speed - try 4x even if your burner is capable of higher
 
Didn't work....although I had it on 8x.

Bastard thing still won't work.

Tried opening it in Real Player too, and got the following error message :-

Cannot find MPEG file header.

Pass!

I usually just use "disk copy" when it comes to VCD's.
Haven't had a problem yet. (crosses fingers)
 
you could try clone cd

download is a time limited trial, but.......

Just had another idea. Had a problem with a VCD I bought on ebay (not Maiden, an old TV show)
It would play on my computer, but not in my DVD player. I downloaded "vcdgear" (http://www.vcdgear.com). I used that to extract the .mpg from the .dat file on the disc. Then I burned a new VCD from the extracted .mpg. Worked like a charm.
Don't know if it will help you, but it is worth a try.
 
i use a programme called cd-mate and its amazing it copies anything i want vcds etc!
 
Eureka! Clone Cd worked.....

Phil - what do I need to do to "unlock" it from the 21 day trial thing?
 
I have one problem.I've just buy the amazing ROCK IN RIO DVD.I don't have a dvd player but i thought i could play the dvd on my computer using the micro dvd player or something else but it didn't work.When i put the discs it gives me the dvice is not ready and it shows that there isn't anything in my drive but i've put the disc in.Could somebody tell me whicjh programe do i need to play the dvd?Thanks
 
I've got Intervideo WinDVD on my PC, and it plays fine with that. Don't know if it's available to download anywhere though.
