As usual, vote for your favourite. Winner moves on, loser goes home.

In the blue corner, from Stockholm Sweden, weighing in with 10 albums that meld progressive and folk elements to a death metal base for a unique sound

In the red corner, from Tampa Florida, weighing in with 12 albums that added classical and symphonic touches and rock opera flourishes to its metal sound

Considering the underratedness of prog on the forum, the outcome is not surprising even though Opeth are miles ahead of Savatage as a band.

Is prog underrated here? Not everyone is too impressed by it, but there must be 5-6 regulars who are strong advocates.

Personally I'd say prog is overrated here :D

Tbh, I think majority of people like it but it just isn't their favourite genre. There are definitely a few prog addicts around though.

Let me phrase it differently then: I think the ratio of the perceived quality of heavy metal/perceived quality of progressive rock is unfair on the forum. But since this is a board of a heavy metal band, it is to be expected.

I always felt prog is overrated here.

By who, exactly? Only one prog album made it to the finals of best album ever game last year and many prog bands/albums get ditched out quickly when they enter competitions. Many people don't even seem to be familiar with some of the biggest names of prog, like King Crimson. Rush are probably the only household prog rock name that are given the credit they deserve here. And I don't see any other avid prog fan other than Mosh and myself.

I am a avid prog fan too!

I have all of Opeth's albums, and I like them enough. I really prefer Savatage, is all. Opeth is alright, to my ears, but not something I can spin every day.
