The draw is set. The game is simple.
Vote for your favourite. The winner advances, the loser goes home.
I'm going to try and post a new match every day, but leave the voting open for three days.

In the red corner, from Tampa Florida, weighing in with 11 albums of breakneck riffing, wailing vocals and epic compositions mined from the depths of war and hell:

In the blue corner, out of San Francisco California, weighing in with 14 albums of godlike shredding and melodic fretboard wizardry, that inspired a generation of players:

I didn't like this draw. Two that should both advance, in my opinion.
Satriani has a deeper discography and is more consistent.
But Iced Earth's best is better than anything Satch has done.

God, when Iced Earth is good, they are FUCKING INCREDIBLE. I love Iced Earth. But the problem is, they are incredibly inconsistent. I can count at least 4 albums that I would be happy never hearing again.

Joe Satriani is so talented that even his worst compositions still have many redeeming qualities. In the end, one of these two bands has left an indelible mark on my guitar playing, melody phrasing, and song writing. So my vote goes to Satch. Sadly, he's going to lose because, well, ImfingE is just more METALRAWR

This (other than the influenced my playing part) exactly.
I'm going to vote the same way.

Iced Earth. No disrespect to Joe, who is great in his range of amazing shredding, but IE is a grander band.
