The ultimate culmination of my feelings. Not the greatest lyrics that I have ever written but I like them.
By the way, the name of section six should also be in Bold Italics. But it wouldn't let me!
 
Every single day. Not every one of them gets finished in that same day, of course. Some do and some don't. This one for example took me two days.

I'm sorry, guys. My talent in writing lyrics has completely gone out the door. This might be really bad. The reason why it's gone, is because I simply lost my enjoyment in writing lyrics.

So yeah, this is the last regular song I ever write. I got something bigger planned but I have no idea when that's coming out.

For now, you could give me your thoughts on these lyrics...if you could call them lyrics...

I think it could use some work, but most of the reasons I think so are musical. So you may have musical ideas that make this sound great. But as one example, I'll show you what I see in your chorus.

"Out to my telescope" is a very strong line. Memorable and direct. That's a hook waiting for an earworm melody. But the followup rhyme seems to have too many words! "Far away, yet so close" is a good-enough rhyme for "telescope", and has the same metric pattern. The rhyme "out to my telescope / far away yet so close" is a winner.

So this song requires music to emphasize that hook. Doing so carefully, the entire final line can work. But on the rest: I'd take out "high above" and use "go outside / starlit sky" to rhyme those lines. "Above" doesn't really rhyme with anything else you've got there - and where else is the starlit sky gonna be anyway?

All this is well and good. My problem comes when I get to the verses. On a musical level, there's not much consistent rhythm - but there are a whole bunch of nice rhymes. A few parts work well as a rap.

More importantly, there's not much thematic connection between the verses and a telescope. You've got a hook that begs for a song full of clever analogies, and at times you went for it somewhat. I'd say, pursue the analogy relentlessly. Take any well-known space term you can find and twist it to your meaning. Fill it with puns and wordplay. If you insist on continuing to write morbidly depressed lyrics, how can you not love the word "void"?

That's what I'm talking about. Bring that astronomical imagery in there. If you're gonna a name a song "Telescope", then ya gotta go for that. Not drop the subject when the verse comes up.
 
I didn't want to take anything away from Stardust's lyrics. I just thought it was kinda funny that Starset also made Telescope lyrics. :)

So yeah, I think I'm actually finding joy in writing lyrics again. It didn't exactly take that long but hey, who cares?

I enjoyed writing these lyrics. They might not be my absolute best, I'm still very rusty but that happens when you stop writing for a long while.

In terms of sentiment, that's quite moving. I like the repetition for effect, as in: "It didn't work at all, yeah. It didn't work at all."

This is the chorus to a song I've been working on for the past few hours. The song is called Cracking the Kiln of Insanity

Cracking the kiln of insanity,
The fear of the past and a need to be free.
Breaking the lies that forever held me,
Down the narrow road on a path to purity.
But I can't break out of the state I am in,
yet all I can do is repent for my sins.

I've been working on a few lyrics over the past day as I had an idea for a couple of lines in my head and I felt the need to get them down.

Too many "ear" sounds at the end of the first verse. Lose at least one "year".

Try an ABAB rhyme scheme. Change line 3 to rhyme with "care". Change line 9 to rhyme with "survive". ("Alive" is an obvious suggestion there.)

I'd go ABAB on the 3rd verse too. "Edge" may be tough to rhyme in this context, so go for that challenge, and find something better than "fed". You're forcing yourself to drop the word "on" which makes sense of that line for a pedestrian rhyme.

You don't "claw it all back" in a single moment. "Claw" suggests a long, hard struggle. Go for a verb that can happen in a moment (eg "take it all back"), or change the penultimate line to a longer timeframe.

No offense intended if you think I'm being hard. But these would by my thoughts if it was my draft. :cool:
