Other great bands...

I really like the other great bands site of the commentary... It gave me influences to discover bands like Helloween, Blind Guardian, Bruce's solo work and Queensryche. On the other hand, I think Mavz should put on other great bands, like BLAZE (if Bruce's solo work is there, he deserves that), and also bands like Megadeth, Stratovarius, Nightwish, coz they're great! I know that musical tastes are different, but they should be included. For example, I don1t like Children of Bodom, but I think they deserve to be on the site coz they're making great music, even if I don't like them.

There's hundreds of good bands missing from that list.

Where's Cilla Black, Nana Mouskouri, Ralph McCoy, Tony Bennett and Keith Harris? Surely they deserve to be on the list as well.

How about the only band in history to never get the commercialism as they supposed to have had

KINGS X

These guys are the best Prog rock, grungr, etc

best band apart from Maiden to grace my ears

it is impossible to put ALL the great bands on other great bands. instead of saying which are missing this thread should be to extend/ammend the list that already exists. As far as the greatest prog rock band....Dream Theater all the way. Dream Theater are good but Pink Floyd are about ten times better IMO. While the musicians in DT are pretty much virtuosos, the singer ruins their songs, especially live.

But that's just my opinion.

hahahaha, I don't think of Pink Floyd as prog rock, but you are right about Labrie! though on the albums I do like his singing, Live... OH MAn, it's not the singing... ITS HIM! he is hideous, like a cloning experiment gone bad! I saw the Scences live DVD and oh man he gave me the hibbi jibbis!

[span style=\'color:red\']I Like alot of bands.. like Iced Earth Blaze DreamTheater etc..
but also bands not very known, like Present Danger. PD is a metal band from my hometown, and they are very good. The music they play is Metal[/span]

To be honest, I don't actually listen to much metal. I'm quite fussy about what metal bands I really want to own all the albums by, but the bands I really like metal-wise are:

Iron Maiden
Bruce Dickinson
B L A Z E
Dream Theater (studio stuff)
Metallica
27
Johnny Truant
Napalm Death
Megadeth
Carcass
Lawnmower Deth
Wolfsbane
Atom Seed
ManOwaR
Hammerfall
Sack Trick
Suitable Case For Treatment (AWESOME local band! Fusion of grunge, death metal & 1970s style blues. Very unique)

Same for me. Not having astronomic amounts of money to spend really I can't go around buying all albums from lots of bands. At the moment I stick to Maiden, Bruce, Blind Guardian and a few more, plus stuff from other genres than metal.

I'd agree that Dream Theater belongs on the other great bands page, as many Maiden fans like them. I also think that Rush and King's X are fantastic, but I don't see them as being so closely related to Maiden; they both have their own totally unique thing.

One thing that might be a nice addition to the page would be some of Maiden's influences, like Thin Lizzy or Jethro Tull. Neither is really metal, but they're both significant in Maiden's history.

I also think that all metal bands everywhere are musical descendants of Black Sabbath, the original metal band; Sabbath belongs on the page as well.

I'd be careful when naming a musical genre Jethro Tull is or not is. For example, I watched the "Living With The Past" DVD the other day, and at several points I thought "man, that riff definately is Metal" or "that solo could well be Maiden". Tull is too diverse to be put into one genre. Seriously, there's everything in there from between ProgRock to Metal (not to mention that they did, in fact, win a grammy for the best Metal album).

As for Thin Lizzy, I don't know much about them, but what I've heard easily goes into the same category as Uriah Heep, Deep Purple or Rainbow. Of course, it's your decision if you want to call that metal.

As I've said before and will say again, at points it's impossible to distinguish between Hard Rock and Metal. Listen, for example, to AC/DC, which many people describe as Metal, and then compare with, for example, Judas Priest, or even Black Sabbath. It's impossible to say where Hard Rock ends and where Metal begins.

Now, my favourites apart from Maiden (absolutely no order):
Queen, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Uriah Heep, Dio, The Who, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Majesty, Jethro Tull, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Doors, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Crystal Ball... the list goes on

Honourable mention go to Paragon, Wizard and many other True Metal bands. I never have the money to buy their albums (and I WON'T dl them!) [!--emo&:(--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/sad.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'sad.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
