The Pre-season is underway and the season starts Oct. 4th!!!! HOCKEY IS BACK and with a vengance!!! Last season was amazing in so many ways the list is to big to name. but the standout for me was The Edmonton Oilers reaching the Stanley Cup final being the 8th seed in the West!!! Their run was brilliant, but sadly Roloson got hurt and the team wasn't able to recover on time, but forcing a game 7 was AMAZING!!!

The Team to watch this season is definately the Anaheim Ducks (new official name) with Pronger and Niedermayer on the blue line, but others like Calgary are pretty strong too and others like Pittsburgh have a lot of new young talent just waiting to break out... 06-07 will be one exciting season!
 
I agree with you on the Penguins. With a more seasoned Crosby and a few other young guns, they might just surprize us.
 
I'm hoping another Canadian team gets to the final (like Calgary and Edmonton in the last two seasons) and WINS, WINS.  Damn it!  It was over a decade since the last Canadian team (Montreal) won.

Maybe if the Canadian dollar keeps improving over the American dollar, cities like Hamilton and Winnipeg could get hockey teams.  God knows there are tons of rabid fans in Canada.
 
It's sad the economy plays such a strong factor in who gets a team and it really shouldn't. Quebec and Winnipeg while small market teams, always had a packed house, which is more than one can say about Both of Florida's teams ( Panthers and Lightning) or even Phoenix (A team in the DESERT? WTF?) *sigh* but I agree. GO SMALL MARKET CANADIAN TEAMS!!!
 
There's an NHL exhibition game in my home town (Truro, NS) tonight! For the first and only time EVER!!!!!
I wish I was there now, but noooo, I'm 1000k away  :(
Our town won a contest called "Hockeyville." People from around the country would vote on which town showed the best hockey spirit, and the winning place would get to host an NHL game.
Ottawa vs. Montreal! Go habs go!
 
I have just finished watching the movie 'Maurice Richard: The Rocket" last night.  I thought it was great, passionate and I really felt sympathy for The Rocket.  I secretly cheered when he nailed the ref  :).  Things were so much more brutal in hockey back then, just like Don Cherry said.

Has anyone else seen the movie?  I would have posted this elsewhere, but I seen no reason to start a new thread.

Bad timing, eh?
 
I didn't even know that movie existed. As far as I knew the only hockey movies were The Mighty Ducks trilogy, Miracle and Slapshot (Slapshot 2 does not exist for me... hmm I think the ducks movies shouldn't either, but I saw them at the appropriate childhood age.) Odd how four of those 5 were made by Disney hehe. There will NEVER be another movie as good as Slapshot. Miracle was really good even with it's pro-U.S obvious bias (hell it's the whole point of the movie!), but I love the underdog and back then, the U.S was exactly that.
 
So the Penguins preview came out yesterday! As expected their are high expectations for this club! Unfortunately Malkin dislocated his left shoulder in a pre-season game and will be out 4-6 weeks :(, talk about bad luck.
 
Ok So it is DAY TWO PEOPLE!!! sadly my bruins are getting savagely beaten, but on the upside, yesterday the young pens beat Philly 4-0!!! Fleury made 40 saves!!! this team is starting to turn it around! Also Vancouver won their opener with Luongo in Net. Shannahan scored 2 goals in his first game as a Ranger and reached his 600th! Jagr is only 8 away from that mark. The Rangers are going to be much better this time around. Last season they depended to heavily on Jagr and it showed when he got hurt and couldn't, well, barely played in the playoffs.
 
Toronto destroyed the Sens 6-0 :ok: which was farley surprising after there first game agents them where they lost 4-1. The owner of RIM just bought the Penguins could they be moving the  Kitchener-Waterloo? :yey:
