My (minimal) contributions to the world of IRON MAIDEN

After reading the really shitty review of the Toronto Iron Maiden show in the Toronto Sun this morning I've decided to out myself on here as a music journalist. I love Maiden and Piece of Mind is the album that kickstarted my love of metal back in 1983 when I was 11. So, having said that, here are some links to a few of the pieces I have written over the years on Iron Maiden:

There's lots more pre-1999, but for some reason I can't find that stuff online.

Based on your post, I looked up the Toronto Sun's review, and I would hardly call it "really shitty."  I would call it good, but not breathless.  It awarded 3.5 out of 5 stars.  And, even though I enjoyed the show when it was in LA, I must concede that there is some merit to the article's references to "Spinal Tap" and Janick Gers' theatrics.  No mention of the bad sound mix you discussed in your other post, either.

There were some pretty serious sarcastic undertones in the review:

"Looking like a desperate court jester trying to placate the roughly 15,000 metal kings and queens before him"

I don't like when journos take the time to piss down on fans. There's a definite sarcastic tinge to what he was saying and when I skimmed over it originally it pissed me off. You are correct however, it's probably not quite as shitty as my original knee-jerk reaction.

And, like I did say, I thought the band was fantastic, it was the sound that sucked. That has nothing to do with the band's part of the performance...
