Motörhead

Love all Motorhead. "A bike's a bike(wheeled or legged!) and a ride's a ride". Some are superfast superbikes(Ace, Bastards), some are rattly old wrecks(Fist, Parole), but fun can be had from all.
If we're splitting hairs, I 'd say my least favourites are World is Yours and Rock 'n' Roll. Favs include Another Perfect Day and Bomber. Snake is great too.

Yeah, World is Yours is kinda underwhelming, but it has two of my favorite Motorhead songs: Born to Lose and I Know How to Die. I think Rock N Roll is pretty underrated personally.

My favourites are probably Orgasmatron, Another Perfect Day and 1916.

But I also really liked Bomber, Ace and Inferno, IIRC.

Iron Fist have some amazing tracks and some real filler. Still, a good one in my book. The title track might be my favourite Motorhead song in fact. Overkill is similarly inconsistent. I also really liked Motorizer, but I might agree it's a bit Motorhead-by-numbers kind of thing.

I even enjoyed March or Die for crying out loud! I hate Nugent, so I'm glad I have a version of Cat Scratch Fever I can headbang to without feeling ashamed. :D That Hellraiser cover was also a nice touch.

Which reminds me - did you know Ozzy's Mama I'm Coming Home was co-written by Lemmy? So was See You on the Other Side. And My Little Man was co-written by Lemmy and Steve Vai

Rock 'n' Roll's production is extremely thin, especially on 'The Wolf'. All part of its unique charm of course. The later cd release sounds fuller.
The Back On Black reissues of Overkill, Bomber, Ace and Fist sound excellent to me, except the cock-up in the outro of Stone Dead Forever. One of the best Motorhead moments and they mess up. Twats!

I think of their albums in 4 groups of 6, 24 in all, including On Parole(why not) and No Remorse(controversial, but at the time included 4 new tracks from the new 4-piece lineup).
Essential classics - On Parole, Motorhead, Overkill, Bomber, Ace Of Spades, Iron Fist.
Laid back, going to LA, sort the drummer out - Another Perfect Day, No Remorse, Orgasmatron, Rock N Roll, 1916, March Or Die.
Hidden gems - Bastards, Sacrifice, Overnight Sensation, Snake Bite Love, We Are Motorhead, Hammered.
Cameron Webb productions - Inferno, Kiss Of Death, Motorizer, The World is Yours, Aftershock, Bad Magic.

My favourites from each section - Bomber, Another Perfect Day, Snake Bite Love, Aftershock.

Was browsing through some of my old metal magazines and came upon a short article from a Metal Hammer magazine from 1991 in which they're out on the road with Motörhead on the 1916 tour. Unfortunately I don't have the option to scan it but it has some pretty cool pictures too and a cool double sided poster.

Among the things said in the article, there's a story about how the roadies bought a fruit/Casino slot machine for Lemmy at a amusement arcade in Nurnberg a long with a handful of coins and the key to the machine and then traveled it around on the tour bus with him for the rest of the tour.

What really made me laugh though:

"One guy asks Phil in an interview whether they'll be playing the "1916" song on the 1916 tour... "Yes." answers Phill seriously, "of course.." I'll be on cello, Lemmy will sing as usual. Phil will be reading a book behind his drum kit while a roadie hits the snare and Wurzel will be having a game of darts on the other side of the stage. Maybe I'll go and join Wurzel for a game at some point. Yeah, I reckon we might just play 1916!"
Some of the rubbish the band have to put up with is astounding. That "1916" question is almost a daily occurrence as cameraman Eddy Stevenson explains "One guy asked Lemmy whether it was true if he had Bourbon on his cornflakes or not. Lemmy deadpanned the guy and said "No... Just vodka" The journalist then goes on, thinking he's doing well, and asks Lemmy what his favorite meal is. "Skinned babies rolled in salt" comes the reply....

:p

They knew how to write metal mags back then...In the same mag there is tour report from Iron Maiden playing Cow Palace in San Francisco...Slayer interview, Armored Saint interview, Guns N' Roses interview, Paradise Lost interview, Mötley Crüe interview, Metal Church interview, Morbid Angel, Great White...the list goes on..
