Norway's Star Team will this year consists of former professional soccer players and the following rockers:

Diesel Dahl (TNT)
Simen Hestnaes (DIMMU BORGIR)
Hank von Helvete (TURBONEGRO)
Dan Raaden Hoque (BACKSTREET GIRLS)
Ole Jørgen Moe (CADAVER)
Kenneth Nilsen (WAKLEVÖREN)
Sverre Dæhlie (AUDIOPAIN)
Christer Krogh (GRAND CAFE)

@EW: Will you see that match? :)

That's in Oslo, 500 km from where I live, and it is tonight, so me think not. If I was attending the show tonight, maybe, but I was quite exhausted after Tuesday anyway.

I thought Maiden were supposed to be good at football?  Losing 8-1 last time doesn't sound too good...

But it would be cool to chant "Maiden" at a football match. :D

Remember the only member of Maiden to ever be close to playing professionally is Steve, and it was back in the 70's. The team they played back then was not the same as today - actually there were a couple of professional players on there, I think the team included two from the Norwegian national team of the 90's, our best period since World War II ...

George Harris, the 17-year-old son of Steve Harris, took part in a demonstration football (soccer) game in Oslo, Norway on Wednesday (July 23) while trying out for the Norwegian club Fredrikstad (which is currently number one in the Norwegian premier league).

A five-minute interview with Steve and George conducted by Norway's FFK-TV can be viewed here.

30 high-quality photos of Saturday's (July 26) soccer game between the official Iron Maiden team, Iron Maiden FC, and Gothenburg, Sweden's Paddington's Allstars that took place a few hours before Maiden's concert at the Ullevi stadium in Gothenburg. In scorching heat (one of the warmest days of the Swedish summer so far), Iron Maiden FC won by 5 goals to 2. Steve Harris scored two goals and said afterwards that he was happy his team got revenge for the loss in Gothenburg in 2005.

Later the same evening, Iron Maiden played to its biggest Swedish audience yet, with official ticket sales figures of 56,132, according to Live Nation. The concert received the highest possible ratings (5 out of 5) in the two major Swedish newspapers Expressen and Aftonbladet.

I read it in the newspaper this morning. Really cool to imagine such a link between my favourite band and my favourite football team  :D But of course, many players come on trial and only a few get signed. Perhaps being English helps, after all Scandinavian coaches (especially Norwegian coaches, but ours is Swedish) have a thing for English football. Anyway it seems 'Arry has done a good job with his kids, having one aspiring for professional football and one in the beginning of a career in music ...

Now that this comes up, did you know that George Harris actually has returned to Fredrikstad? Not to play for FFK, but for a team lower down the divisions: Trosvik IF, the mother club of several Fredrikstad players (among them Tarik Elyounossi who tried his luck in Heerenveen the last two seasons). I scored against them once, back in my high school days, and one of my classmates was playing for them :D

This spring, 'Arry himself attended one of their matches: http://nrk.no/nyheter/distrikt/ostfold/1.7309624
